How to use the Advent homing mines?

I researched the homing mines and built some drone hosts and tried to use the mines.  I don't get it.  I see a button to build the mines.  The mines seem to build and pop out, but when I use the button to place the mines, they don't go anywhere, they just stay with the drone host.  If I move the drone host around they just follow the host.  If I jump the drone host into another grav well the mines dock, they don't stay in the well.

I know someone will say "are you sure it was mines instead of fighters or bombers?"  Yes, I'm sure.  If they were fighters or bombers they would have attacked enemies that were appearing in the grav well, but they didn't.

Anyone know the trick to this?

The Mine squadrons built by drone hosts have to be deployed through an ability that the mines have.  So once you build the mines, select the squadron and then click the "deploy minefield" ability and you will have your mines.

Haven't tested it out in Beta 2 but hopefully it hasn't changed too much in placement techniques...should be just deploy minefield button as stated above...?

when you click the deploy icon you get a movement cursor similar to the station deploy cursor. nothing happens when you click to deploy though.

the mines just sit there.

You have to click the "deploy mines" over the actual mines i believe. I think its a bug as it should move with into position after clicking.

However sometimes it says something like "too many starbases already constructed" or something (what it would say if you tried to build a second starbase in your gravity well), even tho its not a starbase.

Yeah it just happened to me...i tested it out...you have to click Deploy Mine Field.  However you must do right where the mines are. It allows you to position them but it's broken like you said.  That game i was playing with the testing got ruined ten minutes later with a minidump and i just wasted an hour of my life!!! yay to beta testing!!!!
