Unable to Uninstall Entrenchment

Hi everyone,

I uploaded 1.13 today and was unable to run either SINS or Entrenchment.  I uninstalled SINS and re-installed SINS and it worked fine.  Entrenchment would still not run so I tried to uninstall it.  I could not and got an XML error on Impulse.  I tried to uninstall using XP and it would not uninstall the program either.

Any suggestions as to how to resolve this problem, other then going in and trying to manually uninstall it?

Thanks for your help.

I have been having a similar issue since Friday night local time

I upgraded to Beta2 to try it. I copied the folder to another location as I wanted to get a Vanilla 1.13 so I can play MP. I have been unable to uninstall Entrenchment to do this - I keep getting XML Document error (28,8).

I tried fully removing Sins and doing a full install via Impulse - that put Entrenchment back.

I HAVE been able to restore a 1.12 archive, but I get told the my install of Entrenchment is not installed correctly. However I am unable to bring it back up to Beta 2, or convince Impulse to just give me 1.13 and nothing else...

I've never liked Impulse or the old SDC because at one time or another they horribly cockup. This is one of those cases. I've done a fresh install of Sins + Entrenchment. I archived Sins before installing Entrenchment. Now I can play the game just fine that's not a problem. However I cannot archive Entrenchment (Impulse just sits around doing nothing and right clicking I can cancel some invisible installation). Try to uninstall Entrenchment and I get the same XML error.

Being a fresh thing I forgot to change the directory settings and want to archive/uninstall/reinstall so I can put the game on the proper drive instead of C:

Cmon Stardock / Ironclad, this determination to stick with updates only being available through Impulse is causing real problems to users who have bought both Sins and Entrenchment. It's about time you did the decent thing and made updates available as a straight web link.

I certainly won't be as keen to put my money down for further versions unless this mess is sorted soon.

If your problem is that bad, have you contacted either and both Stardock or IC via [email protected] or [email protected] ??

And I for one am a happy user of Impulse. Not a problem yet from it.

As a happy user do you have both Entrenchment and vanilla sins installed? And have you updated to 1.13 & Entrenchment beta 2?

I have also recently encountered the problem with uninstalling Entrenchment. I actually want to uninstall all of Sins for now, but get an XML error every time I make the effort ("There is an error in XML document (28,8)"). I absolutely LOVE the game though stardock and wanted to thank you for all the great work you have put into it; unfortunately, I am at university and actually cannot function properly with your product on my computer, it is worse than Sherlock Holmes' snuffbox and is totally throwing off the rest of my life. So until reading break I wish you ado, so long as I can uninstall this devestating product. Please, be a nice dealer and let me kick the habbit for a bit!

Not necessarily of consequence, I just thought I would put my two cents of opinion in about Entrenchment in this first and final post for some time. I love it so far, but the mines still need some reworking as it requires a great deal of micromanagement to employ scouts properly. This seems like quite the flaw given Sins' otherwise excellent extrication of micromanagement. Also, anti-structures have become slightly too cheap in this version, or perhaps too powerful. And finally, is it just me or is the AI much EASIER than ever before? I am getting the disconcerting feeling the UNFAIR aggressive really doesn't fight like it used to -- it may be an entrenchment thing, or perhaps just this particular beta update did something to the code, but I am having an easy time with unfairs of all stripes. I miss the challenge of not having to play against 3 teams at once!

Oh ya, and one more thing. I am away at school, as mentioned, and do not have my CD KEY WITH me. One thing I love about Impulse (and am suffering for) is that I don't need it to reinstall the product. However, it doesn't seem to go as far as registering online when I go to create an account to kick online-but. Is there a method for me to determine my CD-KEY either in-programme or in impulse?

Thanks again for all the great work and best of luck in you ongoing efforts. I look forward to the end of February and a long train-ride with Sins!

Pax, vel Bellum... one is much more fun.

Yes and Yes.

I would be happy with having two program folders patching indpendently via Impulse - that way I could patch a vanilla Sins install AND a Entrenchment install. I don't have an issue with the extra download - just with not being able to have both at the same time...

Hey Guys,

I love the games too and have never had any problems with Stardock or Impulse.  I want to play the game, but after doing the latest update to SOSE and Entrenchment I keep getting errors.

I have manually uninstalled Entrenchment since it wouldn't uninstall.  Reinstalled it and now get a fdl.dll not found error as well as the XML error when I try to uninstall.   I have been able to get SOSE 1.13 downloaded again and it seems to work, but no Entrenchment.

Also a new quirk has appeared.  When I pull up Impulse it shows me Entrenchment, but not SOSE.  When I try to run Entrenchment from Impulse it loads SOSE 1.13.

Aaaarghhhhhhh!!!!!!

I have contacted Impulse and gotten no response.

Problem FIXED!!!!!!!

Here is what I got from Impulse and everything works great now.

Thanks for everyone's help and comments.

Stridefar

Go to C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire (or where ever you installed the game) and delete the main folder.

Then launch the System Registry (Start-> run, and type regedit)
Look for and delete the following Keys;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\sins
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\sinsentrench

Then, reboot your PC and go back to Impulse and try installing the base game. Make sure it installs to 1.13 version, test it out before then installing entrenchment.

Weird I don't have those registry keys in my registry (Vista64bit).

Actually I did a few searches and I couldn't find any sins registry keys.. weird.

Might be in a different location for Vista??? Maybe under current user instead??? Just guessing. I will have to work it out tonight if they aren't there - will be home in 3 1/2-4 hours...

Is  Vista64 that different?  Hmmmm no registry keys... maybe its filed some other way?  i have 32 so i dont know how to help, sorry, but perhaps MS can help you, or, no... Stardock instead, they install the game, they probably know what goes where. Take care and hope you get fixed soon.

I found it Vista 64 is a bit different.

For anyone else with Vista 64:

HKLM>SOFTWARE>Wow6432Node>Stardock>Drengin.net>sins

and

HKLM>SOFTWARE>Wow6432Node>Stardock>Drengin.net>sinsentrench

Makes sense - since 64 bit has two program files folders - one for 32 bit and one for 64...

Also explains why I missed it when I had a peek a few days ago....
