28,8 XML error workaround

Ok guys and girls. Its actually easy. You updated your Sins or installed it and it either just plays original Sins or minidumps. And you cant uninstall it.

Do the following:

1. Close impulse.

2. Delete Sins folder

3. Start impulse

4 Right click Entrenchment and click Install

5. It will ask you for Sins install. Click Install

thats it. It will DL Sins and Entrenchment and will install it properly.

Have fun!

I already tried this (did a windows uninstall). It puts Entrenchment back... The whole point of uninstalling it is so you can get 1.13 installed (otherwise you would not have chosen to re-install it...)

Ok so i uninstalled sins and i look on impulse. Both say avaliable. So i install Sins and i look on impulse when i go to do the update and I look at entrenchment and it says avaliable. So I am like "hmm." So i go to deleate it and i get a 28,8 again. I am so pissed because now i cant play sins, I start it and i jsut get a grey screen and a mini dump. I have started to play Supreme commander again *Gasp* Also i am unalbe to uninstall entrenchment from the Programs and features ting. It has "uninstall/change" click on it and it does nothing

Error workaround works. Thanks!

On the question of installing 1.13...from the looks of things on these forums, I'm gonna wait until you guys can kill more conflict bugs.  My life is complicated enough as it is.

I have tried it twice myself with no luck.  I can get the 1.13 vanilla to run, but Entrenchment is completely screwed up, with the 28,8 message when I try to uninstall.  I do notice that vanilla Sins does not show up on Impulse anymore, just Entrenchent, except for an update or when doing a full reinstall.  When I go through the above and try to run Entrenchment from Impulse, I get an immediate error that says d3dx9_36.dll was not found.  Hope that helps.

most likely this error has to with wrong directory paths...

right click entrenchment in impulse and open the application folder. if this folder differs from the root "My Games"-folder (set the folder in the preferences option in stardock) it won't work.

manual edit: run "regedit" go to HKLM -> Software / Stardock / Drengin.net / sinsentrenc there set the path to the original one C:\Program Files\ Stardock Games\ Sins of a Solar Empir\

impulse again and click the install button of entrenchement again. maybe this helps.

Doesn't work. Tried this several times and always get the same results when i try to run the game. A black screen that just sits there for hours if I let it. Kill the program in task manager and get a minidump log. now even with the entire game and license folder deleted it still tells me game is installed. Very frustrating. These problems started with the last update up till then game worked great.
