crash to desktop

Just downloaded the new update for Sins / Entrenchment, and the game now crashes to desktop every time I try to start it.  There are no error messages or mini-dumps, so I'm not sure what else I can report.

I have Windows Vista 64 bit running on an i7 chip with 6 gigs of RAM and a GTX 260 graphics card.

I'm hitting the RUN button in Impulse.  I've tried the buttons for both Sins and Entrenchment separately.  In both cases, I immediately get the Windows message that the program has stopped working and Windows is checking for a solution. 

I should mention that everything was running fine as of a week ago, which was when I last played.

In the last week I updated DirectX to the current version and installed Prince of Persia on Steam (which I turn off when I'm not using it - I do not leave it running in the background).  Haven't installed anything else that I can think of.

No, I've never used any mods.  It's strictly the plain vanilla Sins + Entrenchment beta.

I just tried to start Entrenchment and I have the same problem. It crashes on startup and I have just installed the newest patch. I'm running XP 32 bit, last time I tried to run Sins was after I bought Entrenchment about a month ago.

I found this solution in another thread :

 

"This happend to me,

Go into impulse and in my games, click verify instalation for entrenchment, it should say update avalable, so click update and it will download a small update and then it should be good, otherwise try a reinstall if the other solutions don't work.

Good luck!"

 

Try that, mine is updating now.

I've tried this and i get a message saying "Sins of a solar empire is not installed correctly. Please look for an application update." I've also tried reinstalling several times and all other solutions i could find on these boards but nothing seems to work.
