(Bug[possible]) Fleets not warping together

I've played a couple games now, not finished either, but have noticed that my fleets aren't getting into formation and warping as they should. They are just lining up pell mell (not in box formation) and warping when they get somewhat lined up. In the game I've got paused as I type this, I just sent my start up fleet of 1 Akkan and 9 Cobalts into a grav well to take it, and the Akkan and a couple of Cobalts wheren't even in the phase lane before the other seven cobalts arrived and engaged the nuets. The fleet was set to group move, and the order to move there was issued from 2 grav wells away, which may have accentuated the problem, though I'm not sure. Not a big deal for where my game is, but if I end up with large chunks of fleets warping ahead of the rest over multiple grav wells, could become a problem real fast. Will keep an eye on it to see if the issue grows.

Do you have a replay of this? Or a save where it repeats? You can send these to [email protected] with a description so they can take a look. A save would be great, since behavior-AI issues are hard to narrow down and reproduce from just a text description :)

Okay, I've played a little more, and haven't seen the issue again, but I do remember this being a slight problem late game with much larger fleets and having a couple of stragglers here and there. It just surprised me a little to have it happen so early with such a small fleet.

I have had this problem before but only with trying to get my fleet to go to a system that was up on the Z axis, using a map that I had created myself using galaxy forge. May I ask wether this is your case as well?

No, just a normal map, but since then I havent seen the issue  again.

I've had this couple of times, and i think i know how it happens: My fleet was in phase jump, when i issued it a new destination, after that, the ships ignored group jump command. It has happened to me twice like this, but someone else should try to reproduce it.

I can confirm this. I saw this last night, actually :P

I've seen this too.  It's been minor, there's one large group that jumps, then a smaller group that immediately follows.  I didn't think much of it, just thought my fleet was too big, and the software could only handle breaking it into smaller groups to do the jump.

didn't think to report it, they jump close enough together that it didn't cause me any problems, but I saw this frequently.

Well what you're describing is actually normal, as long as they're close together. In the beginning the game waited for 100% of your ships to be in position and aligned to start group jump, but with really large fleets it made some jumps take quite a while so they changed it and now it waits for 90% before jumping them, and jumps the remainder once they're ready. In most cases, the trailing 10% of the fleet was almost ready and with all the empty space they're able to line up and jump quickly.

I can confirm this behavior, but sometimes it doesn't update their target while they're not in phase jump

Additionally, I've had a large chunk of ships waiting at the edge of the gravwell, and then two or three ships will just jump.

My hunch for this latter case is that despite being in a group, they're not all in the same fleet. Maybe I'm just not using fleets right, but it seems that if a ship doesn't auto-join, then i have to recreate the fleet entirely to get it to join.

I'd expect the grouping behavior to occur based on who you issue the orders to, not based on fleets.

I know that, in regards to the advent's domination ability, though it now correctly makes the other ship join the capital's fleet, it is still set to jump seperately. If you select the fleet, the movement is set to some grouped. A right click on the move button fixes it in this case.

I have seen this too... seems to only occur when the flagship is not the first (cap) ship in the empire tree.

As for groups jumping not really as groups, I believe at least a part of it is intentional.

Look at it from this rerspective: have you seen how the frigates move? Their AI regarding obstacles and stuff? How they can get stuck in each other? How they push and twist bordering ships as they try to sqeeze themselves into formation? Lastly, did you see how slowly they all turn? Now imagine if group jump required all ships to jump simultaneously. If it was a 150-ship fleet, they would be lining up, hugging and kissing to get into a perfect formation for 10 minutes!

I think the fact that the majority jump first and so the rest has space to set up and jump a few seconds later is not such a bad behavior.
Still, I haven't seen the fleets dissipate too much. I haven't yet seen a situation where "half of the fleet is near the target while the rest is halfway through the previous gravwell".

As a last note - it is esthetically nice to have ships arrive in short intervals, instead all in one milisecond. I like the Star Wars feeling of a fleet arriving as they do now ;p.

I just had this problem last night with a 30 ship (around that #) fleet.  most of the ships were lined up at the edge of the gravity well, and two were approximately halfway between where they jumped in and where they were going to jump out (straight across the grav well, to one side of the planet - this is the longest straight path possible, as if you pass the planet, your ships' path curves to come down to the edge again).

This also happened with my maxed out fleet a few times (by maxed out, I mean all possible ship support in one fleet).  but ten to twenty ships, including many caps, are stuck back in the original gravity well when I try to make an assault.

and yes, I have v1.15
