Entrenchment Beta 2.5 Change Log

Entrenchment Beta 2.5 Change Log

Coming later this week, unless we find something terrible, is Beta 2.5 for Sins: Entrenchment! I've listed the changes below.

IMPORTANT: The primary function of this beta update is to test the new memory optimizations and to eliminate the crashes caused by running out of memory. 99% of the crashes that have been reported since Beta 2 are related to this.

Gameplay / Balance:

  • Ogrov Torpedo Cruiser -
    • Cost changed from 450/100/75 to 490/100/70 (credits/metal/crystal).
    • Front bank damage reduced 20%.
    • Max hull points reduced from 680 to 580.
    • Max shield points reduced from 375 to 275.
    • Armor reuced from 3 to 1.
  • Proximity Minefield -
    • Cost reduced from 1000/250/125 to 850/215/85.
  • Solanus Adjudicator -
    • Cost changed from 1000/250/125 to 1100/210/135.
    • Front bank damage reduced 50%.
    • Max number of targets in front bank reduced from 6 to 5.
    • Max hull points increased from 680 to 860.
    • Max shield points increased from 375 to 490.
    • Armor reduced from 3 to 1.
  • Advent Hangar Defense -
    • Homing mine squadron antimatter cost reduced from 100 to 50.
  • Mines -
    • Tweaked mine detection conditions to remove case where scouts get stuck in range trying to reveal the same mine.
    • Improved mine clearing by scouts (attacks the closest mine).
  • Homing Mine Squadron -
    • Deployment cost reduced from 850/200/100 to 725/170/85.
    • Fixed Homing Mines that wouldn't move to deploy.
  • Aeria Drone Host -
    • Homing mine squadron antimatter cost reduced from 125 to 60.
  • Sivuskras Ruiner -
    • Mine deployment cost reduced from 700/175/75 to 600/150/65.
    • Ruiner does not have weapons anymore.
  • All scout frigate attack ranges increased from 2000 to 2500.
  • Misc. Gameplay -
    • Ships joining fleets when they enter gravity wells are now properly added to their fleet's pip group.
    • Starbase constructors no longer auto-join fleets.
    • Meteor Storm (Advent) now correctly damages both hull and shields instead of just shields.
    • Starbase phase gate ability (Vasari) uses antimatter to activate as originally intended.
    • Fixed bug where anti-structure ships weren't using data to determine whether they focus fire or not.

User Interface / HUD:

  • Starbases are now only auto-pinned if they belong to your empire.
  • BuffInfoCard Improvement: Instant action query types selectively rendered based on type and context.
  • BuffInfoCard Improvement: Frontal damage reduction now rendered.
  • Fixed conditions for 'Not enough room to spawn star base' error message.
  • Fixed bad error message when trying to deploy mines when another entity is under cursor.

Misc.:

  • Tons of memory optimizations (still more to go!).
  • Fix for buff system crash on exit that occurs when culture rate modifying buffs are on orbit bodies when the game is exited.

Actually, it seems that I have more crashes with 2.5 than with 2.0, at least during the game (2 in one game so far).  I had my 2.0 crashes trying to load/save/exit.  Am going to reduce textures to see if that helps.  Minidumps winging their way to support.

Hey pek! Long time, again :P

That's odd, though. For me it's a huge improvement. I was crashing at random places on medium settings in 2.0, cranked it back up to highest in 2.5 and it's very smooth.

I was crashing in 2.0 with all settings on high...played on 2.5 last night with all settings to high for about 3 or so hours and no crashes

Been working, it interferes with real life, damnit.  Sick today, so I thought I'd get some game time in.  Maybe I'm playing this one more than 2.0, but I don't know.  2.5 IS faster, no doubt, but I just got another crash in this game after turning down the details to medium (been able to run all on highest setting since we've been testing sins, oh, so long ago).  Going to start from scratch and see what's happening.

I got crashes half hour into game in 2.0 and sometimes got screen artifacts/major slowdowns in combat (even with very small number of units).

In 2.5 I play as long as I want with perfect frame rate and maxed settings no matter what. Yahay!

So in theory would Highest Textures work now? *downloading now*

Working fine for me :P

also works fine for me on highest settings. had a 1,5 hour setting with no probs.

Don't know if this is where I should let it be known, but I keep running into a 100% thus far, consistent minidump crash.  It occurs on the "Gateway" Scenario, against 5 Hard AI.  Occuring after a coordinated attack with an AI ally is over and the AI begins sending their fleet to other locations.  I've got oddball minidumps before, but they never really happen often enough to worry about until this one in particular.  Entrenchment rocks by the way, especially considering it's not a final version, though you could probably fool 90% of the market.

Out of curiosity, what are your system specs, Annatar?
End of themule4201's quote

Nothing spectacular by today's standards:

Intel Core2Duo 1.86ghz
2gb ram on Vista 32 (sigh..)
Geforce 8800gtx

I run at 1600x1200 with everything on highest and Bloom disabled.

I played a five hour game last night (that isn't even showing signs of ending anytime soon) with all settings on max, with no performance problems, even though i got a bit mine spam happy on few planets. On 2.0 the game crashed after a few minutes with max settings, and the game also feels faster, so it's a huge improvement

BTW, PLEASE remove "constuction complete" soundclip from mines.

I run everything on the highest settings possible, everything enabled, anti-aliasing set to none, and resolution set to 1680 x 1050.  I have no problems at all, never bogs down, and runs like a charm.  Here are my specs...

Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-Bit

4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs (using all of it)

SLi, Dual nVidia GeForce 9800GT 512MB

500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache

I read earlier in this post that "philc85" hadn't been able to run 2.5. Well I am having the same problem. After first trying to run the game after downloading it would just stop running and windows would say it has encountered a problem.

I thought oh well somethings gone wrong, maybee it was just because I forgot to delete the saves, I'll just uninstall and start off fresh. This worked with the last update, well this time it did'nt. But at least this time it gave me minidump so I sent that to [email protected] with the CD number and system specs. I also read that Annatar said it was a stardock issue. Can you please tell me do we send them the dump file and where exactly do we send it.

Another thing. I noticed before I was downloading the update from Impulse it said that the the update was 298MB. But when was downloading the update it only downloaded 94.59MB an then said it was installed at 298 MB. Could this be part of the problem I'm having?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Anyone have an issue where you minimize the game to do something else quickly then when you restore it  so to speak the game just stops?

Also mines shouldnt take over your empire tree. Should they be there at all?

Ok! I've got it work out now. Apollogies to anyone who's spent time looking into this. It would seem that I've been a bit of a dumbo. After mucking up the installment first time round and then uninstalling everything, I then tried to install the 2.5 installment without updating Sins to 1.13 first. I had assumed that the 2.5 would have that included, like 2.0 did.

As an added suggestion I think it would be a good idea to add a little statment at the end of the change log posts stating how best to go about installing the next beta's, to perhaps make things a bit easier for the computer dumbo's like myself in the community.

Hey TKMARK:

Did you enable "download prerelease versions" in Impulse? I think, you have to right click the blue stardock orb and check the relevant box. Then you should be able to download it.

Cheers

Blair,

Any chance we'll get the movement options updated soon. dying to move the sacrafice of angels mod to entrenchment. You made a post about unlocking the movement types so we can make them move like fighters.

Ok I am getting a minidump too...building my fourth or so base and under attack by AI independant ships and the game crashes.
