assault starbase for vasari for offensive purposes

how about this: when construting a starbase, the vasari get to chose between the standard starbase as we have now and the assault starbase which swaps basic and second tier weapons slots. as such, the assault starbase becomes just one big, bad, upgradeable structure buster, but it comes with this function right out of stock. only, that also means it won't be as effective against ships than the standard starbase would be.

I think this takes care of several problems: 1) the vasari still have a unique way of dealing with enemy structures. 2) it makes it a bit easier and faster for them to get to this point. 3) it does not necessarily make it stronger, since it will still be vulnerable to ships. 4) the enemy will have some time to prepare. even without the requirement of an extra upgrade, the starbase will still take a while to build and will still only have the stock 3000/2000 hp.

maybe it's a crazy idea or even stupid, but beta is all about suggesions. I dunno from a coding point of view, but just copying the stock base and switching the ports ... well it should be doable with reasonable effort I hope.

I still dont see why the vasari would need a dedicated structure basher.

In order to build a starbase in enemy territory you need a decent support fleet to protect it, as it takes much longer to build in enemy turf.  Since it takes so long to build, chances are your decent support fleet has already wiped out everything or has been wiped out...  Very difficult to use vasari sb in offense now, 9 times out of 10 so far the battle is over, but nice to have there as added back up incase the enemy has sent a late arriving fleet to drive you off.

If such a thing is deemed necessary (I'm not saying it is or isn't), a better idea which captures the essence of what you want to do is to simply have the vasari SB initially constructed with an empty weapon slot.  After the construction, you get to choose 1 weapon for free - a standard vanilla anti-ship weapon, or an anti-structure weapon.  Once you do that, the one you didn't choose is automatically set up as an upgrade.

good approach, thought about it too, but I chose to go for the one that sounds like less work to implement. but if an empty slot is just as well possible, then go ahead.

if possible and realised, I wonder if the tec and advent would like this option as well. I mean a purely economic or supportive starbase ... at least at first ... but then I'd say in all but the most awkward cases (simply to close a hole in trade networks?) you'd want a starbase to have at least some weaponry.
