How to get the most out of SoaSE?

Hi everyone, it´s my first post here. I´m not from an english-speaking country so please forgive any spelling or grammar mistakes =)

I´m a big fan of strategy games, both real-time and turn-based, so I´ve acquired this game four days ago. Recently beaten my first game vs 3 normal AIs, and after spending quite a bit of time I´m finally getting the hang of it. I must say the forums helped a lot and I wish to congratulate the devs for all the feedback they give to the fans. That´s rare indeed nowadays.

Now, my questions. I understand that due to its real time nature, there´s not a lot of diplomacy, economy and intelligence options as you have in other classic 4x space games. In fact I´m almost overwhelmed if the pace of the game, so much stuff happening at the same time...  So, what´s the real focus of the game? Fleet management? Resource management?

Second, is it a SP or MP focused game? I must say I was quite dissapointed with the lack of a real cut-scene when you end a SP game, can´t understand why there isn´t any. I´ve enjoyed GalCiv´s cutscenes. A single "You won the game!" screen after playing a game for hours isn´t much incentive. In fact why I would want to play a game vs, say, 6 or 8 opponents in a large map? Doesn´t it get repetitive after a while? Once you researched all techs and maxed all your capitals, it simply becomes a "send fleet there, create mores ships here and send them to destroy more planets" game. Maybe I ´m spoiled by playing too much turn based games, but the lack of (apparent) depth bothers me.

So, what´s the best way to enjoy the game?

You’re sort of missing the point of this game. Sins is a strategy game first and foremost. Meaning you have to do more than just attack the enemy you need to outsmart your enemy use different strategies against your enemies, that's what this game is about. The tech upgrades planet research and all other 4x kind of stuff are there to provide another layer of depth to this game. So to really enjoy this game you should stop focusing on the 4x stuff and start focusing on the strategies.  And if you find the AI to be too weak you can always try out the multiplayer to test your strategies against other sin players.

If you find that there is too much stuff happening too fast, I would recommend lowering your speed settings (are you playing on fast?).  A fast setting means you don't have time to contemplate, much less execute, any real strategy, and you certainly can't effectively handle multiple things at one time.

As far as your other concerns about lack of depth, repetitiveness, etc. I'm not sure what to tell you.  Perhaps you should try smaller maps with less AI opponents which will result in shorter games.  Alter the AI settings to high or unfair difficulty levels, and set the AI to aggressive if you want a sharp fight.  Try playing actual people instead of the AI.  Finally, one thing I like doing is coming up with some clever or crazy tactic, and seeing if I can pull it off first against the AI, and then a real person.  In other words, going into a game with a particular goal in mind can be more fun than simply loading a game up and playing just to play.  For instance, figure out an original rush (there are several out there which have been discussed - scout rushes, sova rushes, etc) and try to execute it successfully.

This is what RTS is all about & is exactly why RTS is my fav kind of game.

Some people don't like the real time element in their games & thats OK too. ;)

IMO I get the most out of Sins via online play. You will learn the basic strats alot faster this way. I seldom spend alot of time on single player games.

I haven't stepped into any mp games, but I really can't see how this game would be good online.  you'd have to find people to constantly come back and play.  Game is built more for sp imo
