Toggle mines?

Will there be a toggle to exclude mines from an Entrenchement game? I love starbases and the upgraded defence structures, but my experience with mines can be defined as "spectacularly un-fun".

I've actually found mines to be not that useful.  They are so expensive, and so easy to miss, that they don't seem to be worth building too much, and when I do build them I lose money on them, i.e. the amount I spend on mines is greater than the amount of money lost in ships for my opponent.

Funny that - I got on with them really well, I created merry havoc with them against pirates!  They are expensive, but in a earlier version they were too cheap and were everywhere with little cost - it might still need a little more balance work - but I like 'em! :)

P.F.E.T.O.M suggest that you do not blame the mines for user error. Also we suggest you think back to a time where defensive platforms were concider a waste. So, would your toggle also disable defensive platforms?

Doesn't look like it. Its probably possible to mod mines out entirely though.

With the turbulent history the mines have had throughout the beta phase of Entrenchment I would actually dare say that many players (me included) would like to see an option to toggle mines.
This due to the fact that there have been so many issues with them, especially when an AI player is involved, so a "toggle mines" option is definately not unwanted or uncalled for.

So I second the request, and I beg IC to see the option in game. (A mod would be good and all, but it would be better if the devs themselves would put the option in - hopefully it isn't that hard to put that option in the final product.)

I guess Im one of the few on the forums who love mines despite the problems. I see huge potential! And alot of times I play Devil's advocate, its what I do. If IC decides to give yall a toggle mines. Why not give a toggle starbase? Or Toggle Tatical Structures?? Or Toggle Light Carriers? Or Toggle LRF? Or Toggle Superweapons? IF you want options Im sure someone else wants any number of Toggle off buttons.

I know it may seem im being a bit drastic, but Im starbases have had a turbulent history just as much as mines. Just b/c mine have asked us to pay closer attention to our fleets doesnt  mean they should be axed. If you dont wanna play with mines, play with friend and agree not to build them. If your vs AI person, not much you can do. I mean they are a key structure and this update. It be the same as not playing with the starbases. Or anything else this expansion brings. And if you are a online MP kinda person imagine how hard it will be to find a game that has the mine preferance you desire. This IMHO will be spliting an already divided MP community.

Oh come on, don't just bring the "why not have toggle this or toggle that", if you played any number of games vs an AI player in the first beta version(s) you'd see the problem. Several players that experienced mines back then haven't even played Entrenchment since then, because of the horrible mine situation. (The AI built millions - nearly litterally - of mines pretty much at random, and clearing them was not an option due to the ridiculous amount.)

I too was pretty much put off the entire mine concept then, and as it has worked so poorly with the game AI (even through the latest versions) and as it has a waay to high limit (if you're gonna bring up the "Starbase toggle" or "defensive structure toggle" things - those at least have reasonable limits) a toggle mine option simply can't go wrong.

If you like mines, sure, play with them enabled then, and so can all of us that has had a horrible experience with them turn them off. And judging by the amounts of threads and posts on the forums criticizing them there will be quite an amount of players doing just that. (The complaints regarding mines outwheigh Starbases, light carriers etc. etc. etc. by pretty much...)

No offense intended, but I can't see a toggle option for this highly controversial addition to the game going wrong any day of the week. :)

I have nothing personal wrong with that. Other that it might make finding a game on ICO that much harder. I was just playing devil's advocate like I do in many of my post. As Im sure you know there are 2 sides to everything.  If IC makes a toggle button you wont see my raising hell to get rid of it. |-)

No, because platforms do not radically change gameplay (they're, tactically speaking, immobile warships) and starbases are just big platforms (with nifty tricks up their sleeves, stationary capital ships maybe?;P ) etc. etc.

Mines however, can cause significant chunks of your fleet to blow up on gravity well entry, no defence possible, other than not going. (the computer in particular know EXACTLY where you will enter and will wallpaper the area with mines)

My fleet getting blown up is fine, but I'd like the enemy to have to actually fight me to do so. And when they aren't in your immediate arrival area, they contribute nothing but hassle in cleaning them out. Which is fine, since AFAIK that is the historical purpose of mines. (kills are just a bonus) But it's not fun for me, in fact it makes me not want to take any aggressive action. (again, the point of mines, but just not fun) I also don't find it fun to lay mines of my own. I'd rather spend my time setting up my starbase/platform fortress.:bebi:

I do realise that lots of people DO like what mines do, and I can see why, so I'm certainly not argueing for their complete removal. But I'd like to be able to wage war (offensive and defensive) without the additional hassle.
