Endless games

Endless games

Thing's i've noticed in entrenchment really anger me.

A) AI spam starbases early making it impossible to beat them early game (vasari in this are screwed over completely due to lack of early anti structure unit)

B) If you and an enemy has even fleets and one of you attacks the other your fleet is forced to retreat. It's an arms race that if you have even planets doens't work.

C) Mines are still annoying if someone places at edge of gravity well. Imediate explosion can take out half a fleet and then you have to run.

D) Computers make the game take forever.

Scenarios i've recognized this

A) I was vasari and played against an advent hard. We both had 3 bar fleet (very early game) mine was slightly bettter. I take out his fleet and he has a starbase in the gravity well. The multiple bank firing pretty much annaliated my fleet even though i spent more resources on it. I even had a starbase myself in teh gravity well and lost. It was slightly weaker upgradewize but i still got screwed.

B ) I've stood at a standstill with a person just fortifying. I was advent he was tec. Being a hard computer and me having to fend off 2 fleets, his fleet was about 50% stronger than mine (my advent battleball still a decent defense fleet*) He had the defense's of an allies starbase(all enemies computers) I finally got bored of sitting there with him warpign in and out so i saved and attack totally destroyed. The starbase was upgraded enough that it did most of the damage to my fleet (iconus took most of the heat, but not enough lost pretty badly). Whenever he sent a scout in it would be destroyed in about 5 seconds due to having a huge amount of defending strike craft (45 tactical spots in defense with turret synergy and a fully upgraded starbase) His ally also had a 10 bar fleet and kept alernating wapring in and out of my gravity well losing a little and then building it back. No headway was made whatsoever even after 60 or so minutes. I finally quit. Computer's are too sensative to retreating if they can't outnumber you by a lot they don't attack. I resorted to warpign my fleet out of gravity well getting him to warp his fleet in and then rewarp my fleet back in. Totall waste of time because the computer would just go back to his super fortified base. (Some way to sto pthis fomr ahppening would have been nice the computer just had 2 10 bar fleets sitting in a gravit well for about 30 minutes doign nothing enough that my fleet would have lost in his well and his would ahve lsot in mine.

C) I've done thismyself and taken out over 20 ships wiht 5 groups of vasari mines. A capital was destroyed in that.

D) Same game as in B computers each had about 4 allies and no one had the strength to get through the others defenses (6 player ffa teams unlocked). Having one 3 fleets in one well in which 2 fleets are fighting and the 3rd is jsut sitting there was annoying. My only ally in the game kept telling me to attack peopel across the map over 10 jumps away so i kept losing his allegance. I finally did quit as said above because the computer's were making no headway either. (another thing is as soon as i allied with the computer all the other computers told me to get their allegance i needed to attack my ally really made it impossible to get more than one ally while all the computer's were the best of friends. I was the person with the least allies. Even by having the best economy the computer's outproduced me by 2x at least. Hard AI

*My fleet was 10 dominas, 10 crusaders, 20 illuminators, 3 torpedo cruisers, 6 capitals (2 progenators and the one of the others all with level 4 abilities), 20 defense vessels and 5 drone hosts. His fleet was 20!!!! heavy cruisers 20!!!!! carriers, 30 javilis 10 hoshikos and 2 capitals. We had about even planets (i had full upgrades in resources with 5 planets with about 4.5 income in resources 20 in credits, he had 6 planets and was outproducing me by about  75%?!?!

Quoting -=XX=-Nephilim, reply 12

MP was passing away pretty much since original release 1 year ago (mainly due to this reason alone) while Entrenchment will be final nail in its coffin since it is NOT addressing this issue at all - quite the opposite in fact - it is making it even worse...
End of -=XX=-Nephilim's quote

Lol Mp is alive and well. As many possibilities as sins offers I'm sure game lenth will not be an issue. Also the sins mp community on the whole is full of helpful space ponies. Jumping from forum to forum with rainbows of trust and hope taking all the pain away.

That and in a world of charge the crap out of you mmo's. IronClad and Sins which is totally free after purchuse to play online. Is the SHIZNIT....BOOOO...........YAAAAAAAAh. I just don't see why you snipe at the Mp community Neplim. Did someone ram it in the back door to your empire one to many times are what. Get some space pony thearpy over in the mp forums man.

I think you completely misunderstood my concerns and points :)

If anything I am ALL for MP and its community and I am not "sniping" at it at all - instead, I am "sniping" at certain missing features in the game that would help this same MP community to rise and shine...

For me, and many many others, Vanilla Sins MP is taking waaaaaay too long even on a small map while Entrenchment not only that it won't address this issue but it will make it even worse prolonging the game even further...

That's about it without going into too many details :p

All right to say i have been listening this i'm replying this. I have to say that mines are impossible to avoid when laid at grav well edge. No way to clear a minfield that hits you on entry and i didn't ahve a probalem laying up teh edge of a grav well. Plus i'm playing these games wiht all fast in SP with x2 speed. Even 1on1 all i see the ai do is build a starbase and camp. The AI just loves camping. I've had the ai jsut sit there FOR HOURS (LITERAL HOURS NOT 1/2 HOUR HOURSSSSS) Warping in a scout then having it die. The defenses on either side are too strong to take out and the fleet. And each our fleets are evenly matched. THere is a definate differance against medium to hard ai as well. Medium ai i absolutly demolish. I've done it in less than 30 minutes of fast gameplay. But hard is like jumping into a sauna from sitting in some cold water. It just is too much of a gap.

Playing multiplayer i have no problem finishing a game in regular sins but in Entrenchment the starbases get fully upgraded and having that bank BUFF makes a starbase able to take out 50 ships alone. WAY MORE THAN IT"S COST. Plus it's no support. Being almost impossible to kill as vasari if ther is a fully upgraded starbase because you yourself have to get a starbase built upgraded and attack the starbase just to kill it. THE LACK OF TORP BOMBER IS KILLING ME. Normally an avid vasari player. I ahve been switched to advent. Also along with the vasari starbase is slightly weaker than the others. I've had it go up against the advent starbase and DIE EVEN UPGRADES. I even had it down 1000 shields to begin with. It just isn't as powerful and isn't practicle to build in eveyr well just to kill the structures. Vasari fleets are slowed to a crawl. TEC is almost the same way and advent is exaclty the same. Instead of a game taking 1 1/2 which is a good time. Nowit takes triple that or has no end in sight even after 5 hours.

I have had no problem taking out AI starbases - the best way is lots of carriers and let your fleet beat up on infrastructure but in a real hurry up situation I have never had a problem taking one down with a decent size fleet - losses yes - but if you watch your ships and move away important ones that get badly damaged before they go puff then no problem especially with loads of missile frigates and then add a bunch of normal frigates which charge in and act as the cannon fodder...... but strike craft are the go - Peral Harbour every time.

xaviorfist - that fleet list of yours: 10 dominas, 10 crusaders, 20 illuminators, 3 torpedo cruisers, 6 capitals (2 progenators and the one of the others all with level 4 abilities), 20 defense vessels and 5 drone hosts

try 20 drone hosts or more - I work on 1 carrier per heavy cruiser roughly - and 1 carrier per 10 missile frigates and 1 carrier per cap -

Right now I'm playing a 7v1 vs Hard AI because no one on multiplayer has Entrenchment. I've wiped out one, and really, starbases aren't THAT hard to take out if you have a large enough fleet. I have yet to get to a point where there's a stalemate, and I'm assuming that would only be likely to happen in an online game, as CPU is no match.

If you can't beat a couple CPUs, dont blame starbases, blame yourself. You're obviously not good enough to take them out, not fast enough to come with an advantage, and not smart enough to plan a different strategy.

There's always room for improvement. The game doesn't need to get easier, you need to get more difficult.
