scuttle planets

to save everything else

One thing I've found is that with comp. players is that if you have taken a planet of little stratigical value inside of their empire, they go after this planet, and if you defend, it becomes too expensive. The ideal way I've found is to scuttle the planet and keep what stuctures around the place I can. (most valuable are extractors) After this your opponet may send a ship or 2 to the planet, but they never go all out on the planet, this can later be used stragically when you front line approaches the planet, just retake it and you can now just sit and wait for an advantage such as their fleet chasing one planet leaving your target exposed.

The AI likes to send unsupported siege frigates to take your front line planet when you attack.  However, because they're unsupported, they're not of any real threat.  One defense platform can kill five or six of them before they destroy the planet.  Better yet, you can send in a few harassers to fool the AI into sending their siege frigates directly into the waiting guns of your main fleet, killing them before the real battle starts, and also getting A LOT of valuable experience.

The AI is very very stupid, and very easy to beat even on unfair.  They do really stupid things like send expensive unprotected seige to their death.  Build way too many LF off the start but do nothing with them, so they just take a blow to their economy for no reason.  There is very little challenge in facing the AI, it takes very little skill to beat them IMO.  Which is why you should quit playing AI and log on to Ironclad Online, and play against real people.  People have the ability to think, and adapt to how you are playing, so it is 10x the challenge.  The computer will NEVER scout you and adapt their strategy accordingly.

Yes I play vs Unfair AI at 4x speed to test stuff in SP.  It is silly :)
