Models...exporting from GalCivII and into Sins possible??

GalCiv II has an amasing ship creating system that lets you simply take parts and assemble a ship whoever you want it!

Question is, would it be possible to export those ships in a certian format and then by converting or something ..important them into either XSI or directly into Sins?? If so would help SOOO much for ship designs!!

Thank you!

Do you know what format the GalCiv II ships are? I don't have the game, so I can't check myself, but I'm getting it in the next couple days. Assuming they can be used in Sins, modelling would be a lot easier.

Just checked, they are stored in .shipcfg files which can be opened by notepad.  It looks like the game then builds the ships from the data in the files

ex S0_Avatar.shipcfg contains:

To get a model out of that, you would need a program to build the ship just like the gc2 game engine does and then export as an actual 3d model.  The best people to do that would be Stardock themselves.

Persionally, I think Stardock should make their own 3d modeling program based off of the gc2 shipyard.  Or sell an exporter for around $5.00 that would let a user export ships in many different formats.

I would buy it ASAP!

You're not the only one. I can model myself, but it is very time consuming. Something like the GCII shipbuilder would save so much time.

HELL YEAH!

XSI is sweet and all...gives sooo much detail to whoever models (I agree my average model time is around 10-12 hours). Problem is, that is time that I do not possess. And GalCiv II ship building allows for SUCH NICE SHIPS (screw details..those ships are INSANE!)..

So Stardock if youre ready this MAKE A SINS SHIP EDITOR ENGINE LIKE GALCIV II and I'll send you 20$$$$. NOt to mention you'll be seeing me throughout all three expansions +_+

I havn't tried modding sins myself, but I have considered it.  Having a ship editor like GCII's would help both people new to modding and those with experience.

For me to give $10-20, a ship editor for SINS would need the following:

- Ability to import custom pieces designed in a different editor(This would make what the editor could do almost limitless)

- Ability to combine pieces into custom ones .(This would help if the same pieces are used together often)

- Ability to place weapon/ability locations

- Ability to scale the model

- Having drawing tools to change the existing textureof the model would help push the price closer to $20

As it is, just having an exporter for GCII would be awesome and worth $5-10 on its own.

I hadn't thought of texturing. If you could choose your textures as well as design the ship, that would be the best, most amazing thing ever. Texturing is probably even moe time-consuming than modelling.

All of Unknown's ideas are great. Please Stardock, make something like this for us!

We should send them an e-mail!

That way were sure they read us +_+

Such a tool would make it so non-programmer types like myself could do this type of work as well, i really do enjoy the features of the GalCiv2 program and was just the other day wishing i could design ships without needing to load up the full program and do all the research to get to a full featured parrts list.

Any way you could hint out that would simplify and maybe make the whole modding process a little faster?

So? I figure that if we bug you enough, you'll eventually make one just to shut us up... or use the almighty banhammer because we're being pesky.... hmmm... is it worth it to risk that?

HELL YEAH!!!

We're customers let us use our great influencal stirngs and DEMAND a sins ship building engine (I'm even ready to up my price to 30$ SERIOUSLY) or we will tear this game apart with false critics! Just to make you guys look bad!

*please I'm on my knees :) lol!

I wish they would have bought a gmax licence and sold the game with gmax and  model import plugins. Xsi mod tool is a pain .

XSI is a lot faster to model with than Max.  Also, all the artists on Sins knew XSI before hand.  That's why it was used.

There are plenty of ways to get the model from max into the game.
