Vasari Starbase can fire while being built

During my last game, I noticed in several cases that a Vasari Starbase moved into range and engaged enemy ships while being built.  (Picture below.)

This is obviously a bug which I hope will be easy to fix.

yes, I noticed that as well.  I posted earlier about TEC flak turrets on hangars firing when they are being built.  And last night, play 1v1 vs an impossible AI, I had a TEC repair platform repairing structures before it was built.  should I save a file and email it in?

Yes, anything to help the programers make the game enjoyable and bug free.

I would have to disagree: This is obviously a feature, which I hope will not be changed at all. Something as huge and compartmentalized as a Starbase ought to come online during the building process rather than being inert until the very end, and while it is unrealistic for it to have its full firepower available at the very start of the building process, it is a much better approximation of having its systems go online as they are completed than having it as a dumb hunk of metal doing nothing until construction of everything up to and including the kitchen sinks fully completes.

That said, I have to agree with the rest of you on the issue of small installations like Hangars and Repair Platform. As they are very small installations created by the crew of construction frigates rather than the crew of many (tens of) thousands living on and working on a Starbase, they shouldn't go online until completely finished.

The TEC starbase does this too!

I do think it would be a cool feature if it wasn't a bug, but this is really doubtful that it was intentional.

I got a cool screenie of it fireing/constructing that will go up if someone tells me how to copy the darn thing in here, the browser doesn't accept the conventional copy/paste is there a code I can manually type in like the [quote] thing or :tehsmileyname:

Actually, It is a glich because the Advent Starbase doesn't fire on enemies under those same conditions.  If it was a feature, they would have made all of them fire while being built.

You do have a good point though.  I like the idea of the starbases defending themselves while being built.

However, I don't like the idea of the Vasari Starbase moving and attacking at it's full power as it's being built.

Hmm.  I never thought about this as a potential feature, but I find myself starting to agree.  My real concern is more about gameplay than any kind of "realism" - quickly starting up a space station is an easy if relatively expensive way to suddenly introduce considerable firepower into a gravity well.  I'm not sure I'd like how that plays out, but I can see the argument in its favor.

if it's a feature then it's not working right.

i had several tests with vasari starbases and enemy ships within range, only one of them really fired upon them.

but i have no idea why the others didn't or what causes the starbase to attack.

maybe when it's beeing build with a couple of repair-bays in range it gets build faster "internally" and hull/shield is not shown correctly.

I'm sorry - I didn't mean that I thought it was an intended feature, but rather that I thought it could become one.
