New game modes for SINS (NOT MODS...MODES <<<)

Hey all...

So I'm here to collect ideas on new game modes that could be implemented in sins and would further expand this games incredible engine.

I'm looking for ideas like a skirmish mode (translated into The DOME) which would allow fast-paced strategically rich battles where colonisation is not an issue. Downright down and dirty. Or the newly designed CtF (Capture the Flag) which to my surprise was fully supported by the sins engine!

So anybody else have game modes they would like to see in-game?

Reason for this is I'm trying to add more playstyles instead of the general...colonise, expand, econ and kill...in which the game outcome is easily decided after 20-30 minutes of play!

 

Play styles so far:

-Capture the Flag (once I rename a few string file it'll be perfect ;) )

-KotH (King of the Hill). I can see it clearly happening!!!! Might even start work on it once our forum is up-to-date and CtF completed!

-Assault :awaiting further info!

An idea I have would be King of the Hill.  A player must hold a certain planet for a certain amount of time to win. If they fail to keep hold of the planet for the time remaining, they have to start the count down to victory all over again.

I do like the CTF idea, but those >_> pesky aircrafts <_< which are very annoying in large numbers would make it very difficult for a frigate/cruiser to keep hold of a flag.

How's about some sort of 'Assault' styled map? IE, disable the ability to build planetary seige weapons, and make one capturable by a certain unit placed in the middle of a map.

Kinda basic, but I haven't the time to expand on the idea at the moment, perhaps later when I return.

You'D be surprised....I play tested SEVERAL games with Evil-TEsla in CtF!

And to the contrary the flag is INVULNERABLE and only ONE ship may capture him...thatsaid..the carrier fleets can destroy all surrounding fleets but as long as I capped the flag..if my opponent DOES not use a capturer to take it back BEFORE I bring it to base and activate its abilities (tutorial will be posted soon about it that will answer ALL YOUR QUESTIONS), then I still win even though he had fleet superiority!

TACTICS FTW!

 

As for KotH, that was also the idea I was thinking about and I know exactly how to make it happen!!!

 

Any other suggestions?

 

@MabFlame, I'd have to show you first hand how it plays and you'll see that aircrafts are the least of your worries ;)

I have an idea for assault, but it's probably impossible to really get balanced.

one side starts with a lot of planets. and I mean A LOT, almost the entire map, but they are not very developed and their military is very insignificant.

the other side starts at one end, with huge amounts of resources and a huge fleet already in place.

the fun part is for the 'invader' to capture enough planets to establish themselves before the 'defender' gets his economy going fast enough to crush him. the defender on the other hand will have to expect serious losses at first, so his important decision would be where to draw the line and start seriously defending/ entrenching.

but then as I said, I'd imagine it's very difficult to balance it such that both sides have equal chances with such unequal starts.

in a way it is symbolising the background story of the game itself, it tec played the defendant and vasari the invader. and you could start with side specific objectives, like vasari 'gather x amount of resources', advent 'destroy worlds x, y and z to take revenge' and tec 'halt the invaders and stall them long enough to wear them down'.

but that would almost go in the range of a mod, bit like RFC for the civ series almost.

oh, and btw, when I heard assault I thought of the UT game mode which sort of lead me to this. AS Overlord ftw! brilliant map.

Sniff Shadowhal got my second idea before I could post it :(DAMN MATH CLASS!!!!!).

But I wasnt thinking about having specific goals!

I'ts still confused in my head and generally it would tend to what your saying.

But to make it more balanced, I'm planning NO CASH! Only slot counts (for ships and structures). So if you want research you'll have to pay for it but then the researches themselves are very cheap!

Attacker would get like starter package of 2400 slot points but can only build SHIPS! And would contain 3 of the 4 planets. Each planet under his controle will grant him extra slot counts.

Now to counter spam of always having max ship. I'm planning on factories to self detonate after a certain amount of time (10 minutes? so they coincide with timer?).

Defender on his part will be able to build not only ships but TACTICAL Buildings as well. Those buildings will have reduced count as to increase their effectiveness in clusters. Would also start with 20% more slot count that other player! But only one factory which STAYS ALIVE UNTIL DESTROYED!

Now as for how it ends..well 2 ways! Either the attacker manages to destroy the defenders colony thereby ending the game.

OR the defender manages to hold off the attacker long enough for his "Ultima Cannon" To wipe all opponent resistance to shreds?

Good idea?

The concept with King of the Hill...is choosing the neutral because its invulnerable and can have abilities! Just change its mesh into a nice little cannon and add the ability to fire after the counter has reached 0 and VOILA! KotH Sins style!

Ok, i' am really not sure if anyone has come up with this idea yet:

i haven't made any names for this mode yet but suggestions are welcomed, ok heres the the mode idea. 

-All players start with 1 Cap. ship and of course that should be the only ship they would get throughout the whole game.

-This Cap. Ship Must kill other player's Cap. Ships to win the game(sounds like king of the hills? doesnt it?)

-These Cap. Ships CANNOT capture planets, meaning you get no such thing as resources.

-Im not sured but i think you can adjust experiences required to level a Cap. ship so meaning you should make the Cap. ships harder to level. Harder to level meaning a more fun game instead of a Cap. ship getting to level 10 so fast.

-I think everyone should start with a Cap. Ship that is chosen from the respective races(TEC, Advent, Vasari)

-Skills is a very important factor to this mode if it's ever establish, so a little modding to the skills should be done.

-These Cap. Ships MUSTN"T I MEAN MUSTN'T allowed to have the skill colonize because that will ruin the mode.

-Also each planets must have rogue forces on them to provide a source of experience for the Cap. Ships in order for them to level up.

-Also i think we should give Cap. Ships a DECENT experience value, so killing a Cap. ship would actually be worth it if your playing more than 1 Vs. 1

-These are just ideas that just popped out of my mind so any change or suggestions are all welcomed.

For assult types is pretty easy,

  • 2 or more planets
  • 1 star
  • the planets are only connect to the star
  • each planets, have unlimited logistics, and unlimited tactical

Escort mode- Escort a ship from point A to B. You could use the CtF ship as the ship that must be escorted. When that ship reaches the end(point B ) it has an ability to trigger a one shot kill of the other teams planet. I can explain it better on MSN if you wanted me too.

How about an insane amount of pirates, and raids every few minute or so, increase building speed by 2 or 3 times, keeps people on their toes

and survive for a certian amount of time, or be eliminated

with vessels with 2 weapons but with various speeds and various strengts of repulsion field making it only affect cap ships (the ball would be cap entity). Only issue in designing that is making sure that repulsion field uses the x,Y axis ONLY and not the Z as to not send the ball 20 miles into dead space!!!

 NOW THAT WOULD RULE!!!

well you could create a barrier, that would block z axis or have the computer control how it can go, block the allowable height changes from the 'equator' of the planet

For the "ARENA" OMGWTFPWN match involving starting fleets with 3-4 capitals, 4-5 of each cruiser and 6-10 of each combat frigate, remove all siege abilities, then customize the GSDef for starter fleets and make the map.

Since there is no way to give research from the beginning, but the ability to give each player a massive fleet, they'll be fighting with almost no research applied -so you might need to totally eliminate the military research, up the armor/shields/firepower, and give the capitalships all abilities -frig/cruisers with abilities too right from the start.

Shadow, look into the scenario template one here https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/339832 .  I figure you'll need a whole lot of scenario templates added to your maps, so enjoy the info.  You can play 7DS System of War Ultra to see how the scenario templates look in-game and having played the map for 5 hours loads of fun.  You might need to change the ver number from 1 to 2 to play in SINS 1.13 or whatever SINS is running at (I'm a 7DS 2.0 guy so 1.05 is my version). 

The good thing is that pirates only spawn at PIRATE worlds, not those colonized by RandomMiltias -but you might want a map or two for certain gameplay styles where all the world are "Pirate" controlled so God only knows where and how many pirates will spawn on a raid.  Enjoy the read.  GL

Also, you might consider capitalships that don't level, but have all the abilities -level 1, but all abilities are active :)

How about something simple, straight forward and as classic as it can be...

Deathmatch!

This would obviously mean the following:

- Limited resources (NO infinite credit income and mining!)

Team that destroys opponent wins :p
