Pace of the Game?

Pace of the Game?

How fast is it?

So, I've been away for a while, but I haven't forgotten about SoaSE. When I left (a few months after release) the matches were simply too long for me spend time on... no matter how much I enjoyed them. ;)

So, have things changed? Are the options that allow for faster matches (besides 1v1)? The new mico-expansion concerns me, as it claims to have added more defenses. This, to me, means that matches could take even longer.

Maps of less than 14 planets I can see being an option. That wouldn`t change the core game at all.

There could be an option to determine the planet and star counts in randomly generated maps.

The speed of a multiplayer game is quite slow. Yes, a 1v1 can be done in a reasonable amount of time, but it'ws not nearly as enjoyable as a 2v2 map.

I enjoy the long matches, but I don't have time for them. Here are some suggestions on a faster settings (primarily for 2v2 and up):

1) Small maps harboring 2v2. Let's say the map holds only 4-12 planets with a single star.

2) Rapid Building: Buildings construct faster

3) Multi-Manufacture: Builds 2 units at once for the price of one. Both units would be finished at the same time with no need for additional facilities.

4) Asteroids: Players start on asteroids, and the map contains no planets. Since asteroids are easier to take out, the matches should be quicker.

5) Accelerated Beginning: Players start off with multiple planets/asterods and are given buildings, as well as resources, to start them off. Tech would probably have to be purchased.

6) Faster tech: Research is faster.

Some of these could be toggles for map creation and others are just map types. I'm just looking for some faster multiplayer options. I love SoaSE; It has great balance and style, but the maps are just too time consuming.

Exactly...

It is just beyond me how so many people (including developers) can't understand this :s

Lets just hope one day we get proper MP support...

I find under 2 hours to be VERY resonable MP time for a 4x game.  It is probably faster or on par with civ4 competitive games.  And it is 4x faster than Sots :)

Craig, over the last 12 months or so I am sure you know how much I LUUUV your game!

My personal TOP 5 of all time! And this is coming from the gamer who played more-less everything since ZX Spectrum :)

Only part of the puzzle that remains unsolved - from your end - is MP... Fact!

Make it focus of your 3rd expansion, if not the 2nd, and provide us ALL with the game we want to play online... Be that epic 10 hours long one or intense 45 minutes one...

Do this and you will have one of the best games of all time in your pocket!

:)

What specifically do you want Craig and Blair to do to improve the online multiplayer game?
