Is Sins one of your Top 5 PC games of all time?

Thread title says it all.

Is Sins one of your five favorite computer games of all time?

I don't know yet; there's a lot of competition on my end.  Competitors:

Star Fleet I: the War Begins, Empire, Ultima III: Exodus, Civilization, Alpha Centauri, Mechwarriors 2: Mercenaries, Quake1/2, Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Baldur's Gate series, Neverwinter Nights.

For me yes...It is in with games like XCOM, FarCry(original), Panzer General, Star Fleet:EAW, Company of Heroes. IMO it is far better than MoO. The game play is really addictive it provides easy MP with SAVEGAME and PAUSE functionality so that my friends and I can return when our time permits.

I enjoy it well enough but it hasn't hit that level for me yet.

Right now, Sacrifice, Supreme Commander (Forged Alliance, specifically), Morrowind, Battle Realms, and Planetside (prior to SOE ravaging it) are holding steady as my top 5.

I would say my top 5 of all time in no particular order would be

Moo2

Sins

Civ 4

Sots

Ultima Online

Sins

Star Wars X-wing Alliance

Half-Life series

Elder Scrolls

Evil Genius

Demigod and Empire Total War will probably be on there when they come out :)

Not for me, no. My preferred genre of games is cRPGs, so my top five list would be in that genre. But I like Sins a lot and it being the first game of this genre that I've tried, I can say it's a f***ing awesome game.

Sins is my favorite 4x strategy game of all time. The gameplay is VERY different than normal RTS and economic management and long term strategy is so crucial. I can't compare this game to StarCraft at all since SC focuses so heavily on build order efficiency hard-counters to enemy units (High Templar vs. Mutalisks, lol) and rushing. From my perspective Sins is like a shinier, slicker, faster-paced version of Master of Orion and I really really loved Master of Orion.

Phoenix Rising

SoaSE

Shockwave

World in Conflict

Halo 3 (Online)

Ace Combat 6, Wing Commander series, Mass Effect, and Assassin's Creed come pretty close as well.

Nah, Sins is good, but its not Top 5 games ever good, maybe in the Top 10-15 Strategy games though, and definitely one of the best games in recent years.

Judging games by personal preference, off the top of my head, I'd go with:

Conflict Freespace 1+2
Terra Nova
Thief 1+2
System Shock 1+2
Civ 4

But then I'm leaving out Battlezone 1+2, Gal Civ 2, Quake 3 Arena, Fallout 1+2, Baldurs Gate, SupCom, Homeworld, Company of Heroes, Imperium Galactica 2, The Tone Rebellion, etc, etc, etc, 5 is not enough.

Relative to when they came out?  No.

"The Ancient Art of War", "Dominions" (as series -- still playing 3rd), and Bolo (the Appletalk game, that is -- with tanks, little green men, bases and pillboxes) would all get slots on my list.  The other two slots are more contentious, but Civ II, Space Empires IV, and Jagged Alliance 2 would all be stronger contenders.

At the moment I'm spending much more time in Dominions 3 and the demo of DEFCON than Sins.

I hate threads like this.  Sins is great and I love it, but you put me in an impossible position.  Ive been playing games for a long time and its not even close to top ten.  Thats nothing against sins, its just there have been a lot of really great classic games that had a much larger impact.

It would help if you narrowed the category a bit...like "top 5 space stragetgy games", or even better, "top 5 space tactical RTS"...then we're in business.

For me, the top 5 "all time"  games would be all dominated by classic RPGs before I even started to get to the strategy games, as great RPGs tend to have a much more lasting personal impact because of the story involved.

just an example of some of the games you have to get through before you can even start thinking about sins:

1) Baldur's Gate 2/ToB

2)Planescape Torment

3)Fallout 1&2

4)Half Life

5)Starcraft

7) Civillization 2

8)Jedi Knight 2

9)Diablo 2

10)Tie Fighter

11) System Shock 2

12)Dune

12)The Gold Box DnD games

14) Dungeon Keeper

15) Knights of the Old Republic

16)Half Life 2

17)Final Fantasy 7

18Doom

19)Master of Orion 2

20)Thief 1&2

21)Deus Ex

22)Freedom Force

23)Gal Civ 2

24) Ulitma Underworld

25)Oblivion (patched with OOO, not vanilla)

Those are just after about 20 seconds of thinking.  I could probably go on.  Sins is great, but come on...you need to narrow your list a bit.

Having been a gamer since pong, top 5 is tough to pin down.

In no particular order:

*Descent (1,2,3)

*Age of Empires: The age of kings

*Red Baron 2 (actually the 3D edition)

*Jedi Knight 2

*and yes, I'd put Sins in this list (just beating out RoN......barely )

Honorable mention:

Rise of Nations, Wing Commander, Knights of the Old Republic, AoE 3, Alien vs. Predator (the original, not avp 2), Prince of Persia, Monkey Island, Pirates (sid's remake),

In thinking about what games would be in my top five, I notice that I am rather biased toward more recent games and wonder whether I should include an older game from the floppy disk era (and even the 5 1/4 inch era for those of you who are old enough to remember it).

I'd say definites for my Top 5 are:

Unreal Tournament (the original released in 1999) -- This is the greatest online multiplayer FPS game of all time.  I spent years playing it, authored and released five capture-the-flag maps, managed a clan that competed on ladders, managed a custom CTF map server (TheGamebox.net CTF-2 server in case anyone remembers), joined and became active in several server, discussion forum, and IRC channel communities, and played PUG matches for many years until Sins came along.  It owns my #1 spot by a huge margin.  Best $10 I ever spent.  I still play UT 2004's Onslaught and Invasion-RPG frequently.

Baldur's Gate series

Alpha Centauri

Empire / Empire Deluxe -- My entry for the floppy disk era.

Contenders for the other slot in my top 5 are:  Star Fleet I: the War Begins (anyone remember it?), Ultima III, Ultima V, Starflight, Mechwarriors 2: Mercenaries, Quake1/2, and Neverwinter Nights, and Sins.  Sins is a very strong contender for a Top 5 spot, but I'll have to see what I think about it in two or three years.

it's an awful question..:)

For my point of view, Sins belongs to my top 5 of recent games (it's a hard choice due to high competition).

1. Neverwinter nights 2 (expansion pack included)

2. Mass Effect

3. Crysis (full very high setup in 1920*1200)

4. Sins of a Solar Empire+entrenchment

5. Call of duty 4 (mode hardcore in multiplayer)

After that my classics games favorites :

1. Dune 2

1 bis : Wing commander 3&4 (5 was good but not as good as the 3 and 4), and Privateer 1&2 'the darkening)

3. Baldur's gate, Icewind dale series

4. Dragon quest 8

5. Resident Evil Series (especially Code veronica and the 4th)

6. XWing and Tie Fighter

7. Age of wonders

8. Civilization 1 (the best one..:))

9. The Settlers (the 1 from far, even if the last one is near to first)

10. Tekken and Soul Calibur series (all of them..:))
