The first one always is.
I personally like capships more than any other ships. They are powerful and don't require being replaced to often, if ever. Multiple high level capships can and will turn the tide of battles.
On another note, off topic forums are on all Stardock sites, and so someone from Galciv II or Windows Blinds might not know what you are talking about. So for more specific questions on a game related topic, the game's general forum is the best place to post.
I agree with you. The sova carrier is a useful ship to have in your fleet because of embargo, and missile batteries. But I rarely build the akkan. It is almost totally useless other than targeting uplink which only helps lrms and stuff. It is much better to build another martza than a Akkan.
The capital ships on the TEC side are, IMO, not as fun/good as Vasari and Advent, which is why I prefer to play Vasari or Advent, but not TEC. Probably my earliest SoaSE strategy was to build only capships until I got all 16. Sure, their combined DPS was small, but their survivability was unmatched... The trick is to have a good combination of DPS from frigates and survivability from capships and in the case of TEC, hoshiko repairs.
You should build the Akkan for its colonization ability (it is superior to having a colony frig running around). Other than that, capships aren't worth it.

You guys are underestimating the Akkan's Ion Bolt -- clearly, you have never lost a level 10 capship to a level 3 akkan + escorts (after a full fleet battle both sides fleets were weakened, and when I retreated the Kol way before it was near death, like 2.5K HP I think).
No, because it's actually the worst disabler.
If you bring your own disabler, it's not that big of a deal.
the way i look at it balance is key. if you have a fleet of capships, escorting frigates, and repair ships, they can take on a fleet of much larger numbers. and just the pure fact that there are mulitple gun bateries (i just know i spelled that wrong), are at the very least great for taking out mines and good for soaking up damage if need be

Yeah, it has a short duration. And a very short cycle time and a relativly small amount of AM cost...
If it's disabled, its AM cost and cooldown are irrelevant.
In any case, having played as all three races, I personally find ion bolt to be lacking.

Other than that, have you ever sent a fleet up against two (or 3!
)level 6 marzas and nothing else? heh! they get pwned by missle barrage in 10-15 secs! If you can use the abilities to their best potentail (e.g. advent holy trinity) you can turn any battle! You don't buy them for their DPS, you buy them for their sturdy hull and cool battle turning abilities, and since the first one's free (aside from the 50 supply) you got nothing to loose (exept 50 supply but a capship is worth that easilyl lol)
But if your asking about the sova and akkan specificly, not really exept for the akkan's covienient colonization and armstrise ability is a good escape tactic, makes me wish I had that earlier today, oh and aside from having 7 fighters/bombers (not untill lvl 10) sova is useless lol.
I believe sova was reduced to 6 strike craft...something I hate.
Personally, I am not too big of a Sova fan, it was tough decision to get one, let alone two but I do like how they steal money. Akkan is great, I think, it stuns and you can keep firing at the target while its stunned, no other ship does that, but its duration is so short and its super ability is very powerful.

I love the sova carrier but think it should have at lest 2 times the figher/bomber carrier capacity. I use the Akkan a lot due to the targeting uplink and the ability to dissable the other ships (especially caps) temporarily allowing an advantage to pound the tar out of the targe with concentrated fire and no return fire.
Armistice is one of my fav abilities in the game... you can hang in a fight a lot longer before you must retreat. As far as ion bolt goes, its great to have if you have an enemy cap attempting to leave a well that has a phase jump inhibitor... they never get to jump out. Also, a lvl 3 ion bolt charges faster than unupgraded jump engines, so if you got the antimatter, you can hold any target indefinitely while you pound it.
Akkans are undervalued IMO.
Cap Ships apart from the free one, are really not that good compared to Carrier Spam unfortunately.

I like the Sova embargo trick, pretty nice when getting beat up on two sides, once you get one down just drain the $$$ of each planet, boosting your cash flow to help defending on the other side
