Fleet Compositions

Okay, so I've seen a couple of threads about fleet composition. I play Advent 98% of the time, and i generally end up with 10-15 Guardians, 15-20 Disciples (for the anti-matter steal), 15-20 HC's, 5-10 carriers, no flak, 4 or 5 Subverters for the ability kill power, and a main body of 30-40 LRFs, along with a Progen, Radiance, and a Halcyon or a Rapture. I'm trying to improve my Advent game before going online, and I want to be able to switch to TEC or Vasari to balance a team. What can I do to better balance my Advent fleet, and what are good fleet combos for the other two races? I can get there economies going pretty well, I just need input on the fleet compositions, so that they're not getting torn apart all the time.

I'm TEC player. I find the early strikes are the most important - if you can kill someone off early your in with a chance! Heres a cheap minifleet for the the start of the game or garrison etc.

40 Cobalts

20+ Javilis LRMs

2 Caps (recommend Kol Battleship + Akkan Battlecruiser)

As far as the bigger fleets go - replace Cobalts with Kodiaks, keep the LRMs for anti-frigate duties, have a 2 dozen or so other cruisers and add another 2 caps of your choice (not the SOVA, who would want a Sova?). Try and rotate your caps in the fireing line - have 2 repair platforms on the next friendly planet and alternate 1 of the caps being repaired (jump out when hull reaches 2000). I find 3 of these fleets + garrisions will topple any AI.

BTW, frigates are always expendable. Look after your Caps as above, and you'll be fine.

I'd say increase your number of Carriers. The Advent have the advantage in strikecraft, and don't have as amny HCs. The Advent HCs can't stand up to a Kodiak, so don't even try. Also, add some flak frigates, they can massacre enemy fighters and bombers.

While a little flak support can be helpful, you're usually better off building more carrier cruisers and building fighters than investing in flak.

Also:  40 cobalts!? are you nuts?  You're going to get slaughtered by LRF's.  I build a couple cobalts as necessary at the start of the game for colonization purposes, and then otherwise I don't touch them unless I see someone skipping directly to carriers.  They're decent mid-game support with saboutage reactor, but otherwise not worth the money.  Too little damage and too vulnerable to LRF's.  Spend that cash on bringing out carrier cruisers instead, or more of your own LRF.

The army you've described will get slaughtered by someone who techs directly for LRF (this will be agiven against a Vasari opponent, and against Advent you're in for a hammering against those illuminators).  They will be teching directly for LRF's if their scouts catch wind of your buildup, and a decent scouting party will be able to see that much.

Sova isn't bad, either.  It's not a good first or second cap, but I often bring it out third for Embargo.  All you need to do is fight a battle in the enemy's homeworld (or somewhere they've put up lots of trade ports...) while using embargo.  Win or lose, you've crippled their economy for several minutes and you've got all that extra cash to spend.  The Sova isn't about winning battles, it's about winning the war.

The Advent HCs can't stand up to a Kodiak, so don't even try

End of quote

Your capital ships have better support abilities as Advent.  While TEC do have their own strong cap abilities, most are direct damage abilities.  Dunov is the only one with genuine support abilities, and even then you're not even in the same league as malice, shield regeneration, energy amplification, or vengeance.  If you consider all the late-game capital ship comboes Advent has, it's the Kodiak that needs to be careful.  If you can keep malice on a group of Kodiaks, your crusaders will slice through them like butter.

As a TEC player I recommend the following with them

Caps: Kol, Dunvo, Marza
Kol is good charging into the thick of things with the Dunvo supporting him with shield restore while the Marza stands back and fires away(espcially after lvl 6). Not as synergist as the Advent but still brutal.

Cruisers: Get Hoshikos about 20 to 30. At basic they keep your ships alive. With nanite upgrades they can put to sleep a lot of cruisers and frigs. Always have 15 to 20 carriers no matter what the race.

Frigs: The lrf have the longest range of all but should be kept back with the Marza, about 20 should do. Colbalts are good for fodder. Use them that way.

I personally build 5 fleets, just to cover all of the abilities,k each fleet composite of nearly 70 ships, distrubuted based on usefulness
