z axis in galaxy forge
is there a way to change the z axis on planets and stars in galaxy forge (make one planet higher or lower than the others)? i am new to this so please bear with me if this is a stupid question.
Stardock will be closed for the week starting on Monday, June 29th and we will be returning on Monday, July 6th. We will be monitoring support tickets and forums during this time but expect delays in responses during this time.

no the z-axis is done randomly i think
or if 2 planets are narrow together than they are randomly sorted in the z-axis
What if you put 2 planets on the the same coordinates?
Try putting a planet you made in 1 stars radius into another stars radius, and also intercecting star radius's. I have had planets and stars go up on the z axis by doing this.
Be warned though, you may find jumping fleets up and down the Z axis to different GW's a problem.
Have you tried adding a z coordinate in the "pos..." line when you open it in notepad?
ie: pos [ 100 , 100 , 100 ]
The game engine sets Z-coordinates for planets randomly (since it has no impact on gameplay); they cannot be specified.
That would be a very bad idea. Even if the planets got spawned well apart in the Z axis, since the gravity wells are actually cylindrical rather than spherical you would have great difficulty telling which well a ship was in (for game purposes, each well is completely separate and even if they overlapped you'd have to phase jump to switch wells still).
Thanks for the info everyone! i wanted to make my galaxies a little more interesting than just flat 2d plains, but i guess it can't be done quite yet.
It would be cooler if the gravity wells would be spherical and 3D. It would mean larger maps and a more realistic feeling to the game.
Ive tried putting planets in the same coordinants and it only puts a planet on top of another kinda like this (:).
Oh and wraith, how far are you on the Homeworld mod? I ask you this here because the post rarely gets answered.
This would explain why jumping along the Z axis can be a problem. Thanks kryo!
Is there a recommended angle, not to go below on the Z axis, assuming that straight up and down is 0 degrees? to allow good fleet movements between GW's
If you are talking to me, you have the wrong guy. i don't mod. i didnt see anyone named 'wraith' in the posts so......my name is closest.
Kyro, how close is the GForge team to making GSDef templates visible and Scenario Template Creation not a total, mind-numbingly difficult process? GF1.1 has a couple of good features, but not enough to make me use it as the primary map creator. I really like being able to see GSDef templates and the STemplates I add via notepad.
Oh srry. Its because theres a guy named 'Wraith' whos making a Homeworld mod and the forum for it never gets answered.
But a Z axis and the whole idea of mooving in a 3D gravwell would still be pretty cool.![]()
