Stupid Question

please respond ASAP

Ok, from what I've read and seen modding is pretty badass in this game and Id like to compliment everyone whom has made a mod for the game... the only problem is I cant seem to get the mods to work... How do I save the mods that I have downloaded to the correct file path? I'm running off of the SHI*** windows f'ing VISTA and if i follow the file path that SOASE's mod tab gives me It sends me to the game disk... Is there something I'm missing?  I cant get the mods to save in a file that I can actually access in SOASE... Thanks I'd appreciate a prompt response on how to get the mods to "take" and "work" for the game. (Just to rule out the computer itself as the problem... I'm running off of a Dell XPS 1530, 2.5GH processing speed, 4.7 GB of RAM, and the rest isnt really important the Graphics card is more than the recommended settings)

The place you need to be saving your mods (If I understand that as the problem, pardon if I'm mistaken) is thus;

C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods

If you can't see the AppData, you need to make it so the folders aren't hidden... I forget exactly how this is done, but I'm sure someone will offer aid in that regard, should it be needed; otherwise I'll look into it later today when I can.

well, from what i see you havent even touched this game yet. so ill list a few things you need depending on your version of the game and if you got entrenchment or not.

1: do you got entrenchment?

2: in the game install directory there will be a tool called ConvertData_OriginalSins.exe and ConvertData_Entrenchment.exe these will convert files from binary to text and vice versa.

3: download this ConvertData GUI. This tool will allow you to easily convert files back and forth to text or binary. all you got to do is change the ConvertData_originalsins.exe or the convertdata_entrenchment.exe to ConvertData.exe (only one at a time, always mark what one is which. also refer to the thred for more info on the tool.

4: thers a file called entity.manifest, this file is located in the entrenchment folder of your sins install (if you use entrenchment) it contains a list of EVERY entity that was added/modifyed by entrenchment, to add new entitys to entrenchment you got to add them here (including updating normal Sins research and whatnot)

5: your mod folder is generaly not visable by searching the normal way. best thing to do is search using windows search really. but if you got no luck there you can always type the command into either the run... program prompt or into internet explorer and hit enter.

6: create a folder with the name of your mod in the mod folder.

7: the layout is either Mods/(modname)/Entrenchment/(Gameinfo, Entity.manifest, other folders with modified information) or just mods/(modname)

8: i havent moded SOASE without entrenchment so i cant give you much support there. as far as i know the manifest is only for entrenchment.

well, hope that helps a little, its really late here and im tired as hell so sorry for any errors in typing or coherency. as for showing hidden folders, go to tools/folder options/view/show hidden files.

I thank you for the converter... and yes you are correct in the assumption that I have not touched the game... I've only had it for about 2 weeks and have never modded(acctually always wanted to but have never had the TECH aka. computer resources)... Your reply however much appreciated does not really answer my question on how to get other peoples mods... Very much appreciated(p.s. I do not have entrenchment I am currently trying to find it and buy it though)

well ill just point you to Here.  download a mod made for 1.3 and change thoes two files in your sins of a solar empire mod folder "window" folder for the mod your want to play (assuming you got your game up to date) then once you got them installed you got to options, mods, then click on the mod, hit enable, then apply changes (assuming the mod menu layout is the same as entrenchments, if not, just enable it, click on "load mod on startup" and then restart the game).

as i said in my other post, you can just type in the mod path that the game tells you in internet explorer or the command propmpt to get to the folder.

hope this helps. thers a list of mods at the top of the forum, i advise Mad Scientist mod and Distant stars
