How to mod with just game files?

I want to make a mod by just changing the config in the game files, no new models,. planets, or textures. Just modded original sins game files. but i am unsure how to do this. I read you just put them into a gameinfo folder, which is then installed in the mod directory like a normal mod, but that appears wrong. when i enable my mod(which does appear), nothing happens. The only way for me to mod my game now is to mod my base install(not desireable!). How do i create my own custom mod out of text files?

PS i know how to alter the files, i just don't know how to make them work like a mo

Thanks!

Are you trying this with Entrenchment beta 3 and its new mod stacking sytem? Because as far as I'm aware, nobody's found the Magic Trick to get them running (or it's simply bugged).

ya, i know i couldnt, so i hard moded the beta install. seems you got to reinstall for any of the new betas relesed anyhow, and with the retail just around the corner, why not.

Did you have success with editing the entity.manifest and dropping the changed files into the Entrenchment gameinfo folder?  (copies of course, originals backed up to be safe)  :)

I haven't tried it yet, but i thought that is what i had heard as the preferred method for Beta 3, but as you say, release is tomorrow so even modding Beta 3 now, will probably change tomorrow.

ya, it is a little late but the final release is not gonig to be a darastic change so if you mod beta 3 the worse that will happen is you got to carry over files, re-edit the string file and add the new files to the entity.manifest again.
