The free extractors appear after 30 seconds or so.  The benefits of the other colony caps also have a delay before they become active.

It helps in that you don't have to take time to build the extractors. It's particularly useful when colonizing grav wells near the front line. You can build defensive/production structures immediately, and can still get resource income.

I wish it gave u free extractor at lvl 1. It would be so sweet!

Dead asteroids don't have any resource asteroids, but the Akkan can still colonize them.  You just don't get any bonus from doing so.  If the planet has 2 asteroids, then that's the maximum the Akkan can give you, simple as that.

Anyways, just running through the math, the Progen with equal level colonize would still offer more cost savings in most cases.    The only case where the Akkan would be better is if you only purchase only one planet upgrade.  If two or more planet upgrades are purchased, the Advent still get better savings.  After that analysis, it seems pretty cut and dry to me that the Akkan should get 1/2/3 extractors.

You purchase one upgrade on Asteroid, and sometimes on a Desert/terran that's on the front line and you might lose soon after.  1 upgrade will be enough to stop the financial drain ocne they reach 30 pop, and you save the upgrade money/resources.

Thnx for your analysis Darvin3.  I feel it would be a great change for Akkans, it would certainly make it very apealing first cap.  Marza is getting overplayed anyway, good players will never die to missile barrage.  Though raze planet is still strong as ever

I don't think that's a correct assumption. Try using a rank 3 colonize with only 1 free rock sometime

yeah the akkan(scratch that THE AKKAN in general needs a buff) Colonize ability definately should get a buff preferable as mentioned lvl1/1 lvl2/2 lvl3/3 and maybe some other bonus cause right now its sucks your better off building a regular colonizer and getting a marza or kol.

Well, I think most people will agree ion bolt is fine as is.  Colonize would be respectable if it went to 1/2/3 extractors.  The only other ways to buff the Akkan would be to address targetting uplink or its basic stats (health, armour, damage, shields).  I think the problem with targetting uplink is more to do with the fact that there aren't enough accuracy-reducing effects in the game.  If you're up against an Advent with vertigo or fighting in an asteroid belt, it suddenly becomes very useful.  I think the biggest thing that could be done in the Akkan's favour is to add more abilities and features that cause accuracy reduction, thus giving targetting uplink a unique purpose.

I most of my current game my first ship has been the Akkan and its usually the first ship that lvl to 10. The reason I use it is the increase range aura. The extra 25% at lvl allows me to assault Beam Cannons and Missle Platforms outside their max range. Also allow my LRF and extra shot or 2 while the enemy is closing in. Not to mention the increased range of my flak.

The colonize ability is weaker but its nice to have if Im pushing the front. I'll tell you what really needs to be looked at is the lvl6 ability. It doesnt effect SC, and that is very lame.

lol your ships lose accuracy while they are moving this is what the Akkans targeting uplink is for. The ion bolt consumes to much antimatter and targeting uplink needs to increase damage a little maybe like 5%

Because colonize isn't something you use in combat, and armistice is a little weird, ion bolt is your only in-combat ability that drains anti-matter.  For that reason, I don't think its cost is actually a huge issue.  Again, it's the other abilities that should be buffed.

If you're going to add a secondary bonus to targetting uplink, it should be something that doesn't already exist in the game.  Perhaps it could give the Akkan additional experience?  That would be a unique mechanic.

Or armor penetration. Since with better targeting they can hit weak spots.
