Rapture?

When you capture an enemy ship you only get the base model. All their kodiaks could have 9 or 10 armor and 23 dps and upgraded hull and when you capture it you dont get any of the abilities and armor, dps and hull go to baseline. Is it spose to be like that cause it doesnt seem right.

It's intended; this was a change in the beta 3 notes:

"-Fixed bug where research prerequisites that included subjects your race did not have access to were evaluated as being satisfied instead of not. (Mind control bug)"

I don't understand what the logic would be behind losing those upgrades from ships you steal with the rapture -- where exactly are the technology upgrades going? Most of the stuff is structural improvement, so it seems kinda silly that once mind control was utilized the technology would simply vanish..

Yeah it should be made that what you capture you get.. doesn't mean your entire fleet gets the technology.

It could be a workaround to make sure that you can't Mind Control a constructor, build a Starbase, and start cranking out TEC ships.

^Rofl wow that was a good one I can imagine the Topic that would start.

I see your idea but,

Constructors can only build what you yourself have the technology for.. if you capture an alien ship, you don't gain the knowlage of its tech unless you have time to reverse engineer it, I'd assume that would take a while, like researching your own tech!

:)  Actually with the Dominate ability from the Advent, can't you do just that? Also captured ships from the pirates still retain all their abilities. And when i changed the line in Domination to add CapitalShips, the caps still retain their level and abilities as well.  Am i misunderstanding something?

i think he's saying it doesnt make sense that captured ships lose their armor & weapon upgrades.

maybe they are anti-tamper?

Reminds me of C&C Red alert, you could capture a construction yard and gain access to their whole tech tree.

Ya, I have tried to take over enemy constructors before, they don't grant you access to any construction capacities -- so it appears that this prospective problem has already been addressed.

Or from starcraft, the protoss dark archon. capture an enemy worker, gain access to their entire tech tree.

Or Command and Conquer Generals, where you snipe a USA dozer with jarmen kell and then get air cover for your suicide bombers. : p I love that game ...

But correct me if I'm wrong: there is no tech to build a TEC starbase, just a tech to get the constructor. The build starbase ability has no tech prereqs, therefore dominating a TEC constructor would allow you to build a TEC starbase. It wouldn't allow you to get a factory in it (because that's a TEC tech you dont have access to) but you WOULD have a bottom-of-the-barrel TEC base.

Vasari migrators need a tech to build a starbase ergo it wouldn't work with them.

Has anyone tried this? Vindicate me here people ...
