[Disappointed] Vasari Starbase Aesthetics

Im really disappointed with the Vasari Starbase. I think it should be remoddled because the Vasari deserve better then a Giant Rattle for a Starbase . I know Ironclad can do better! the TEC one looks great. :digichet: . Ive also noticed when the Starbase fires its lasers , they appear from flat textures that dont even represent anything that should fire lasers. Thats lazy!.

With the spiky architecture of Vasari , I was hoping for something like Deepspace 9 or a Cylon Cityship.

ps - Alot of people complained about the Kol model , and it got changed.

Eh? What's so wrong about the Electric Space Onion? It's alien, it's scary.

It's also useful from a gameplay usability standpoint in that it's easy to tell what kind of starbase it is: square -> TEC, round -> Advent, The Claw -> Vasari.

Let's be constructive here: intead of naysaying, post suggestions.

Your mom's a starbase.

I like to call it the Eggplant.

I'd have to disagree, it looks very Alien, sounds like something out of War of the Worlds, and does some nasty damage when upgraded...

I love the vasari starbase

I don't mind it, but I think the Animations need to be kicked up.  The pulse guns don't exist but the bullets from them do.  That is lazy.  Same with half the other starbase weapons. TEC?Advent have like little holes that shoot lasers.  There should be guns protruding out.  Is it that hard just to put somehting there?

Thanks!!! (or else)

I actually like the vas sb the best

I really dont want to fuel this debate so late when it should have gone on a few months ago. I do agree though that when I first saw teh vasari starbase I just thought it was some kind of joke. Like they were never going to use it and they were going to put some huge king base to replace it in the next update. Well I was disapointed and had to learn to live with it. Id just imagine that the ball thing on it didnt exist as it looks comical as it moves around the grav wells just hanging there like some kind of harmless death star with a floating crown of doom. I really was hoping for it to atleast have some inventive doomcannon or something that it could use and was disapointed further. Honestly what I had in mind was the death star with kostura cannons sticking out of it all over. You can do that with small asteroids by the way.

I like the Vasari starbase, although I will say that, based purely off of looks, its not the one I would expect to move. The TEC and Advent ones seem far more suited to moving around, although thats just me.

  The Vasari Starbase is my favourite!

TEC is my favorite. It's the beam turrets on the corners that do it, I think. I thought the Vasari one was odd at first, but it grows on you :P

Now, my memory isn't exactly the best, but wasn't it something along the lines of "The early placeholder got upgraded to the real art"?  From what I recall, while most of the ships moved from placeholder to final art relatively early (i. e. before I got involved in beta 2), the Kol took a little longer to get 'finished' than the rest.  And, in fact, a lot of people complained about the new Kol, thinking it was uglier than the old one!

:) Advent are my favorite! It reminds me of War of the Worlds, with the saucer section.  :)  But i understand its hard to please everybody. What if they changed it? Then someone else would say "You know i really dont care for..." so there we are. I think the Vasari and the Tec and the Advent Starbases are neat to have, heck, its nice to have any starbase! And im getting used to using it fairly early on. I've changed my tactics from starting off with caps, to starting off with frigs and the sb launcher as quick as i can, trying to get it before i get the first wave of Pirates in to my home world. Usually i make it now, but have to hurry, in the beginning i poked around and waited too long and got jumped pretty heavy from the Pirates. Thought i was going to lose the game in the first five minutes, haha. Anyway, i love the starbases, they hold their own and they are a very nice addition to the game, the change the tactics and they are a mean ship to have in a gravity well with your fleet.   :)

Just my opinion of course,

I like the electric space tulip of doom.

They should put some angry eyes on it, and put some teeth in its maw and make it open and close like a mouth. hehe!

But seriously I also realy like the big purple bellied monster, and the other SB's. I think the Dev's have done a fantastic job.

I like the Vasari SB the best. It reminds me of a spider or something.

It is original and very imaginative :P and the spikes sticking out of it make it look evil.

I admit that I didn't like its appearance at first, but I really like it now.

The hole in the middle should have energy tendrils holding the 2 sections together or something.

Have to say, I really like the look of the Vasari starbase. You do have a point about the lasers though...

My favourite is the TEC base, mainly cause it's almost Cylon ;)

Have no problem with the way the Vasari base looks though, if anything I dislike the Advent one the most, esspecially the way it wobbles like a weeble sitting there ^_^'

If I was to criticise anything it would be that Ironclad put in the ability for stuff to look different as you add upgrades / skills and didn't take advantage of it on caps and star bases.  Fingers crossed for a future update.

Upgrades ARE visible on Starbases. Maybe visible changes on Caps will come on the future mini-expansions (Though IMO Entrenchment is anything but "mini" )

It's already possible to do it with a mod, there was just no reason for them to change the vanilla :P

Oh yeah? I starbased your mom last night!

I dont think the Vasari SB is the best suited to move, but it's still pretty cool. It's kind of daunting when I jump a fleet in and see that I have to contend with that

How cool would it be if Kol's railgun got bigger everytime you level up the ability? Or if flak guns appeared on it's hull when leveling up the Flak Burst ability? I hope something like this will be added by someone.

Craig, is it your favorite because you came up with the design?

PS: It's my fav looking too.  Although the ball could use a little work.  Like maybe replace it with a pair of balls.  Then we can say that any Vasari player has the biggest balls in the galaxy :)
