Could we get more things to fill up all the space on the maps?

The maps in galciv are prettymuch empty. Its basically a bunch of suns and random bonus anomalies randomly thrown onto a stary background. Could we have defining features of maps, like large expanses of weird gases that cause changes in speed or whatever, or big spacial barriers that you cant pass, or something? It would be good because then we could set up defenses based on these spacial terrain features. It could add more strategy to the game.

Spacial terrain would definitely spice things up (I think we are all too used to playing on planet surfaces :) ). Wormholes is another favourite request.

Key issue is whether the AI can make use of them as well as humans probably will.

The devs should just watch star trek and copy all of the spacial anomalie barriers from there. Gas that makes you invisible, sensors go offline, weapons at reduced power, etc.

If this happens, then you will have to start guiding ships between systems with waypoints. Please, if you add clouds and clusters that cover more than a single point (more than a resource, star system, starbase), make it intuitive (not green makes you go faster, blue makes you go slower), instead put in a black hole or some other cosmic phenomenon that is clearly impassable.

If you want spice, how about resources that are consumed/depleted after a random time and newly discovered resources that can only be found with a new addition to the tech tree (or a StarHawk - to give the player a reason to build it).
