[PROJECT] Modding of Sins Systems - MOSS

Stars and Planet Modding

Hello everyone.

Since most people have decided to halt production on their mods in regards to stars and planets, I have decided to undertake this mission myself. Here is a little about myself, and what I would like to accomplish with this project.

First of all, I love "Sins of the Solar Empire". I even consider it to be the best RTS style game to ever be produced, even above the C&C / Red Alert series and the Warcraft / Starcraft series RTS's. That being said, I play this game a lot, and when I say I am going to devote time to a project like this, you can believe me when saying that I will not dis-continue the work put in.

When playing Sins, the gameplay I consider fine and balanced, that isn't what bothers me with the game in the least. What does bother me is the limited choices we have as far as stars and planets go when it comes to map building.

So here is what I want to accomplish in each area of the project.

STARS

14 Stars of Various sizes and colors. Using realistic color textures. This would include extended gravity wells for larger stars and smaller wells for the small stars.

PLANETS

40 Planets of various sizes and textures. Planets like stars are nothing more than spherical models with a texture wrap.

What I am looking for, I would like to recruit some players who are serious about trying to build stars and planets. I need people who know how to edit and convert the .ENTITY files.

Also need people who can texture, using the cross pattern textures in both normal and UV mapping. Also need to be able to manipulate and work on the .MESH files if needed.

I know there are some out there who want more planets and star types to build with. Many people found interest in Diresaint and Cybdevil's SOL mod. Uzii's Sins Plus and Solar Sins.

Since we no longer have these people working on planets and stars, we need to work on this issue ourselves. So I want to put together a team who will mod stars and planets for sins.

The 14 Stars and 40 Planets is just the beginning, it is a starting point for what I would like to create. If I can get enough interest in this project, I will produce a website for us to work from and a voice chat server to help us work more efficiently. We will store all work on the website for players to test and give feedback. Hopefully producing Star Packs and Planet Packs for the players of sins to download and use. Always updating and adding more as time goes on.

So If anyone would be interested in doing this, please send me a private message here. Leave some feedback here. OR send me an email at [email protected] or and IM at that address.

This is something I would like to get off the ground as soon as possible, hopefully enough people share my interest in building stars and planets and want to see more in the game.

Thanks,

NeoNaka

This is actually quite simple to do and wouldnt require someone dedicated only to that role as creating a planet takes seconds +_+ and thus would be within reach of anyone! Well in my opinion at least :)

A very very cool idea! I like it. Being a fan of a bit more of the tactical side (jumping into one side of a planet or star system ,going "crap" and then having time to run away or change tactics) that this might allow in the game, I'm excited. I have no experience in doing any of the things that you need to get done, but I will keep my eye on this and offer feedback when able to. Very cool.

Yeah I know, for some, I know how to do most of it myself, but on some things I get stuck and it would be nice to have a team put together to share knowledge. The forums are extremely slow for asking questions and being productive.

Like this example.

When playing at 1.04 which was the version needed to play Cybdevils original Sol Mod.

I found out that by changing the "NullMesh" number from 0 default to lets say 60, greatly increased the size of the planet I was editing.

Since then I have upgraded to 1.15, however now when I change the "NullMesh" line in the entity file, it does nothing up or down. I tested it on PlanetTerranHome, PlanetIce, PlanetVolcanic, PlanetGasGiant.

Changeing the "NullMesh" line in the files do nothing to increase the size of the planet itself. So obviously now I am looking in the wrong place to do this.

It is questions like this I need the help with, and it would be easier if I had a small team put together who could work on it.

We could make a truly great star+planet pack I know it.

Oh BTW, if anyone knows the answer to that above question, I still need help with it.

Thanks,

Trial and error my friend!

I cannot answer you're question as I have not touched any (well only one) planet entity in v1.15! I'd have to go about testing things then I'll be up to date on how V1.15 planets work!

Email: [email protected]

If you ever any other questions! feel free to pitch them there! I'll look at 'em :)

lol. says the person always getting hemp from me as well as others :p but ya what he said, generaly speaking its nice to have someone on your MSN or some sort of IM list to get quick questions answered. its kinda neat actually, since you learn things you never would come across normaly (since i usualy research questions if i dont initially know the answer).
