New to Sins, and... doh ! Where are the starbases ?

Very stupid question...

Hi all,

 

I'm a very new player to Sins, and I must say I always have hard starting the game, but once the game launched, I can't stop playing it ! Very excellent game !

 

I had bought Sins of a solar empire, and had a game started. I was almost in the end, when the Entrenchment got out, and I bought it as well, ruining my savegame. Nevermind, I'll start a new game.

So I did, and just finished my first game by winning it... But, though I searched carefully, I never found where the "build starbase" button was. After having some researches done on internet, it seems I need to do some research (probably under the defense button), but once again, I didn't found what to develop to be able to reach the construction of the starbase.

I know this is a ridiculous question to you guys, but I still haven't found the asnwer myself. I even searched video tutorials, but starbases are not covered...

So, how do you guys do build a starbase ? What needs to be researched ? Thanks for the replies,

research 'raloz prototyp' for tec, 'savior design' for advent or 'starbase deployment' for vasari. starbases are then constructed by specialised ships, the raloz heavy constructor for tec, talion savior for advent (both new, specialised SB building ships) and the migrator (colony ship) for vasari. these ships have an ability with a resource cost that allows you to construct a starbase anywhere you want.

so, in short: you don't build it from the planet menu like the other structures, but with special ships.

Also... make sure you run Entrenchment and not Sins.  Done that a few times and wondered WTF?

Thanks for those information !

 

I'm very sure it will help.. And as a matter of facts I was searching in the GUI from the planets... I didn't thought of it beeing built from a ship... Thanks to all of you for those detailed information, and I'm going to have a read at the post linked.
