Matter processor spam

Last night I was playing a game versus a Vasari opponent and he built something like 6 matter processors at one of his desert worlds,  I thought this was like a normal refinery and anything more than 3  (4 if bordering on a unclaimable with mines in it) of these things was pointless did I miss something?

It is, you missed nothing.

The only benefit to the more processors I know ofwould be that more of the refinery ships would be built at one time meaning you could lose a few of them and still be pulling in the max resources.

General rule of thumb, spamming "refineries" is the worst tactic in the game.  Only if you have a sweet, sweet planet, would you put refineries.  Astax had such an awesome spot last night, but that only means you put 4 at that planet and no more.

Trade on the other hand...yeah, that stacks until the cows come home.

BTW, Astax, for the record, that was the most awesome planet setup I ever saw for refineries: 1 dessert connected to 4 gas giants with 3 extractors each.

I'm tempted to to calculate the odds of that happening in a random match, but I know I'd leave out some variable or another that would make it even more unlikely. 8C

Yes that was very odd occurance.  That map was so imbalanced we had probably 20 neutrals on our side of the map, the other side had nothing.  Oh how I miss the old resoruce option for setup.

A neutral extractor is equivelent to a tradeport in income on a short route.  Of course tradeport becomes better, but so can the extractor with tech.

Wow...I don't think I've ever seen that before!

I was TEC, and ya they lost.  I'm pretty new to the game (about a week and a half now) but we had a mexican standoff on eitherside of a small system that only connected up thru the star (which I fortified with a fully upgraded starbase).  I outproduced him bigtime so even when he fired the Kostura at my homeworld and jumped thru to sack it, I went on to kill his entire fleet and then his planets.

that setup with vasari's fast resource researches and superior neutral grabbing would make them a freakin powerhouse

Yeah, I had #1 fleet and #1 econ.  I had trade up and teching 2nd fleet supply in about 10-15 min.  It was pretty rediculous.
