Game crashes after 15min

I'm a former pirate turned paying customer after using who knows amounts of hours playing this wonderful game, I am however slightly dismayed by the problems that ensued after going 'legit'. Since my purchase I have had 1 6hr+ game and thereafter never gone past 15m where the game would either make a standard windows error sound and close upon me hitting either space/enter (probably some error message in the background) and other times it is the standard windows error reporting service.

Seeing as it is just about the only game I play I have not noticed wether it is direct issue with this game but given that nothing has changed since my 6hr+ game till my <15min games I am rather baffled. Whenever I get to see the error message is contains a random directx9 filename, which I then obviously tried to troubleshoot but to no avail seeing as microsofts utility simply says 'up to date' whenever I try the web installer. The minidumps made by the game are only 0bytes so I'm guessing that helps a bunch .

This is my 32bit dxdiag, tell me if you need the 64bit version since I am running the 64bit version of Windows Vista.

Then, reboot your PC and go back to Impulse and try installing the base game. Make sure it installs to 1.13 version, test it out before then installing entrenchment.

You may need to manually remove the game folder, and delete 2 Registry Keys before you'll be able to re-install. Then the install should go better.

Go to C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire (or where ever you installed the game) and delete the main folder.

Then launch the System Registry (Start-> run, and type regedit)
Look for and delete the following Keys;

XP & Vista 32 bit;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\sins
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\sinsentrench

Did just that already, seeing as I browsed around and seeing just this c/p advice smashed everywhere. But unfortunately it was no dice in my case.

Together with the support guy I figured out that lowering the graphics settings stopped the 15min crash, I find that solution rather distasteful seeing as my 7950GX2 ran the game just fine a full settings and the fact that my GTX 280 did just that for over a month. So I'm guessing this is driver related of some sort. The tech guy said that some of you guys had found a solution by tweaking game profile settings in the nvidia controlpanel, anyone with some info on specifics?
