Should Starbases be weaker when being built?

Lets look from a gameplay perspective.

I just think its not weak enough. Infact sometimes its just patronising to see someone building starbases infront of your units.

Yes you can probably keep shooting at it until its built and it will probably only have 300 health left , but then his fleet is taking your ships down.

Gameplay should reward and punish decisions. Thats what makes it a game.

Maybe you could shoot down their starbase builder, you know, before it starts? Those things are pretty weak, after all. :P

or if you are vasari 1 shot from nano disasembler can kill a starbase pretty easily when it is under construction.

but the other races have a harder time.

I think while under construction the starbase should have no armour at all. that way it is easier to shoot down.

Its kind of risky to build a starbase in a hostile territory in the first place.   A heavy hitting fleet mixed with heavy hitting and support cruisers can destroy an unarmored starbase real quick.  Jsut take out the fleet defending the base and bring in the other fleet before the starbase gets its weapons up.

I think P5yy is talking about early game when you dont have HCs out. then if your oppopnent builds a starbase while attacking there is no way to destroy it before it gets built fully without seriously hurting your fleet.

as much as I play vasari and don't have a problem with this. Starbases should be weaker while under construction.

  Try to build a starbase near Marza (Radiation bomb) or Radiance (Detonate Antimatter). We'll see how long it stays being built before it asplodes.

A large squad of upgraded LRFs can take out a fresh starbase quite easily.  No need for HCs.

That is also true, unupgraded starbases are really easy to kill. SOmetimes I let it finish building just so I get full 400 xp :O

I actually think it's balanced okay right now.  They aren't THAT hard to kill while they are building if you have a reasonable fleet. In fact, they take a hell of a long time to build in an enemy grav well.  Yes, you will take losses as you pound on it because the enemy fleet will pound on you.  However, will their loss (resources to build the starbase) be more than yours?  My guess is the answer to that depends on the specific situation.  So far, I haven't gotten a sense of imbalance.

ive been know to rush a vasari SB into someones HW within minutes of game launch. and frankly i feel dirty when i do it because you can build it immidiately after jumpin in you dont need to position it cuz it moves, its to early to have means to take it out and its pretty well gg after that. usually while i watch them franticly try and kill my SB with minimal results, as i repeatedly nano-bomb their fleet away i think to myself yeah SB need to be weaker when building

not to mention the fact that if your a ninja like myself you sneak your colonizer around and jump it in descretely. you get a head start because his capitol and minimal fleet are else where and by the time they get home theres a 1/3 built SB in the living room

The race to destroy the builder before it starts to build is ridiculous. Especially when they have 5 hull left and magically transform into a Starbase you can't finish with a reasonable size fleet.

Destroying the builder doesn't even apply to Vasari who can jump in and start building anywhere.

I'd prefer Starbases being built just like any other structure where you can destroy the builder and stop the construction.

Would be impossible to get one up in a contested well.  It was essentially impossible in one of the beta builds.  If you make it too impossible to pull off, you've just screwed vasari out of their "assault cruiser."
