Impulse for Windows xp 64bit?

Hey guys, so I've come to find out that impulse does not support windows xp 64bit. I was told that this must be installed in order to play demigod.... so my question is... with xp 64bit, am i unable to play demigod or is there some sort of way around this? Well thanks in advance

I think you need to email [email protected] with this one. :S

I'm not from Stardock support, but here goes:

Here's a copy from another post I made:

I'm rather disappointed in Stardock for dropping the ball on XPx64.

Try this workaround:

1) download impulse installer.  If prompted, choose "save file" instead of "run".  If not prompted and the installer launches automatically, adjust your browser settings to allow for saving files instead of automatically running them.

2) find impulse_setup.exe in your download folder (usually My Documents\My Downloads\, unless you've changed it or directed your browser to save downloads somewhere else)

3) right-click on impulse_setup.exe and choose "properties"

4) click on "compatibility" tab

5) tick the box for "run in compatibility mode for:" and choose Windows XP from the drop-down menu below it.

6) click "OK"

7) Double-click impulse_setup.exe to launch your now-functional installer without the annoying admonition about using a "stripped-down version of M$ Server 2003".

There are minor annoyances with the functionality of Impulse when done this way:

- WindowBlinds doesn't update properly through Impulse (but I use the stand-alone x64 installer without issue)

- BootSkin doesn't install at all (not suprising since I'm not running Vista)

- Most other programs install/update, though sometimes with multiple tries

NowTry the compatibility "trick" on any of your programs that are biased against XPx64. No guarantees that it'll work with Demigod, but I haven't run across a game that wouldn't run on XPx64 yet.

I'm not a developer, and I don't want to flame hard-working coders, but this seems to me to be waaaaaay too easy to get around to not be an easy fix from Stardock.  C'mon guys, don't give us this "won't work with x64" line of BS.

While you're at it, give us an option for stand-alone installers that don't rely on Impulse.  Certainly some will enjoy the convenience of a program that monitors/notifies/installs updates, but not everyone.  And certainly not at the expense of not being able to install a game they paid for simply because Impulse wasn't compliant.  Pretty Please.

I could have sworn that it had a 64 bit version out.  I never looked into it, and just assumed it did, since my installation of Impulse went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Impulse and not to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Impulse.

Then again, i could be wrong.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Impulse would be where a 32bit app would install.  All 64bit native apps install into the C:/program files/ folder.  There may be a 64bit version out, but I'm thinking it would have to be for Vista x64.

Peace

Hi,

I was going to create a thread on this myself but I searched first and found this. I have Windows XP Professional 64-bit edition. Can I run Demigod on it or not? I almost bought it (which I'd never normally do without a demo), but then the requirements in Impulse (which does run fine), stated that it was XP 32-bit only. This isn't listed on the requirements page online.

BigChewy - did you have any luck with ainuke's "tricks" or a response from support? I'm only a very occasional gamer so there's no way I'm messing up a nice, peaceful XP install just for the occasional bit of fantasy warfare.

Failing this, I'll email support, but I certainly wont be buying the game if I don't know if it will run.

A demo version  would be very nice *hint hint* ;)

TNNNN

End of ainuke's quote

XP 64bit is a bastard child. Even Zune software (as you guys may or may not known is made by Microsoft) does not support XP 64bit. If you want pretty good support in most programs for 64bit you guys should most likely look into Vista 64 bit or wait for Windows 7.

Hello

I am running windows XP x64 and have tryed the compatibility trick on my installation of impulse, and with or without it installs fine, it just does not work once installed, I have tryed to run it under compatibility mode on all the exe's in the folder, and sub folders, but still to no luck. The ImpulseNow gives me a system tray icon that cannot detect the game I have (sins of a solar empire) which I would like to update, the game works fine without any compatibility.

I have tryed everything I can think of, sometimes on the very many times I have tryed to run Impulse I get an error message that says "windows cannot find "ERROR\ERROR" " does anyone have any ideas? or knows of a way round this problem please?

There are also major multimonitor bugs in XP64 that will never be addressed, etc. In every way, Vista 64 is a MUCH more solid option.

And, of course, when Windows 7 comes out of beta it will rule them all.

I have Vista Ultimate x64, and I have not run into any problems  with Impuls. Maybe I´m lucky or it is the wonder of electronic!!!   I really hope you can get some help from support!

You should probably email [email protected] for the correct answer to your problem but I don't think there is any XP 64 bit support with current programs from Stardock.

None of our software is designed for or tested under or supported under Windows XP 64 bit. Vista/7 64 bit is not a problem.
