"Tactical Zoom" level in Sins

All i wanted to know is if Sins has a "Tactical Zoom" slider option like Galciv2 does. Minimizing this option basically disables the graphics for ships/buildings at any zoom level, which is great for someone with a terrible integrated video card with 512MB of ram like i do.

I have looked around the option screen and the settings file but i could not find anything and was wondering if it exists or is under a differant name, or if this 'feature' was never implimented in Sins

Thanks in advance,

ipher

Yes.  It's even better in Sins than it was in GalCiv (and I say that as the designer of GalCiv).

I feel honored to have the designer of GalCiv reply to my question, but i was actually wondering if there is an option to adust the Tactical Zoom settings in Sins. In GalCiv2, i had it set to 0 (i think) which caused the game to use icons for everything in the universe (except for stars), instead of rendering the graphics, no matter how far i zoomed in. I was playing Entrenchment the past few days on a friends computer (great game/expansion btw), and couldn't find a similar option, which would be neccesary to run Sins on my laptop (in GalCiv2 on default settings, anytime i zoomed in to where it would render the 3d models of the ships, it would pause for 30 seconds or so while my swap file went nuts, annoying for a TBS game, devistating for a RTS).

Thanks alot for the quick reply,

ipher

Hi!

Might be the tactical zoom is defined in the following lines in Gameplay.constants

 >  zoomDistanceLevel0ScalarForPlanets 1.5
 >  zoomDistanceLevel0ScalarForNonPlanets 5.0
 >  zoomDistanceLevel0 1000
 >  zoomDistanceLevel1 65000
 >  zoomDistanceLevel2 4000000
