Selling minerals on black market

How exactly does this work?  Never tried it before the other day.  Stuck about 2000 metal up there.  Nothing ever happened (left it on the default price, and it said I was the lowest seller).  Lowered the price some after about 15 minutes, still nothing happened.  This was against the AI, by the way.

What exactly does this do?  Does it stick the stuff on the same "market" that is used to buy and sell generally?  Or is it a different market?  Does it affect the price of the standard market?  Does the standard market have any effect on what you are selling?  Etc.

It's the same market that is used to buy and sell generally. Basically the way it works is if you list your stuff, when someone (AI or player) tries to buy it, it will buy it from your listed pool and give you the money. This almost never happens late enough into the game because if you have 2000 spare metal to throw up there, chances are the AI has plenty of its own. But try to stick metal or crystal there early on, it'll get gobbled up very quickly.

I'm unsure of the exact details on how listings from multiple players are handled. I'm pretty sure it buys the lowest, but I don't know if it's random if the prices are the same (left on the default auto-adjust).

The default price does vary with the "main" market, it fluctuates to match the market state.

You can adjust the percentage of the market price that gets charged when you sell.  This will allow you to get more money for whatever ore you're selling.  But it could also mean that somebody else has ore on the market at a lower price.  It tells you these things.  And it depends on the game as to if people will buy late game.  If somebody has a ridiculously high credit income, they will probably be buying a lot more than they are producing.

I don't think AI buys any of the metal or crystal. I believve regardless of difficulty, the AI has unlimited minerals so I really don't think they would buy it, I think this is mainly for multiplayer

They do indeed buy it. I sell lots to it, but like I said, you sort of need to do it early enough. If you're playing unfair and find yourself with an excess, chances are theirs is bigger. :P

As a Vasari player I often put resources up and (although very slowly) the AI does buy it in long games.

April fools, right?

On a side note, if you put them up, they will be sold, but only when another player buys them.

I routinely make 20,000 a game using this feature.  Set your sell amount to 100%, and watch as the money flows in.

Nobody else ever uses it though, so it's almost like free money if you have extra resources.

If I have extra of a resource, I put it into the black market.  Then, if I run low, I take some from the black market.  In other words, I store my resources in the black market.  This means that when people buy resources, they generally buy it from me, so I earn tons of cash.  And it's sold at full market value, instead of the half market value for the quick sell button.

Quite fun.

Edit:  This is for multiplayer, but I am sure AI buys it too.

dont sell to much at the same time otherwise market crashes and the opponent will have it cheapley sell when high

If the market crashes I buy and put more on the market.

Tried this again with a few games tonight, this time on multiplayer online.  Put metal up at the beginning of the game but it never sold.  People were buying on the back market too, it seems, as I would see it run up and crash back down.  So what's up with this?

Maybe the opposite team knows that if they buy them, the profits will go to you?  This is only good for FFAs where no one knows whose selling them.

Someone might have been undercutting your price.  Mouse over to see if anyone else is selling metal.

The real question is if it is really worth to bother with the black market. Just selling/buying with the four buttons works wonderfully, the black market function feels rather complicated and redundant. Especially compared how streamlined SOASE is in every other aspect.

How do you buy from a player directly instead of the full market price?

So then how do you sell your goods on the black market if people can't buy them?

People pay full market price.  If you have some for sale, you will get the amount you put them up for sale.  The rest of the money goes into the ether.
