I'm tired of repeating myself and getting mocked on the subject of my overall chivalry, tbh.
I'm a soft, sensitive type, and that's my weakness, so I often keep secret what is possibly my best trait.

Well, I do.
And it's hard for a game not to have a counter-sniper capability. The art is not about equipment, but presence. One must first recognize where a sniper would go. Then one must confirm the target or approach in a manner that breaks up the possibility of being shot. If at all possible, one must be capable of sniping in order to strike them first. Other tools such as artillery help as well.
So, assuming you're not on flat ground with a shotgun, you should be able to get the job done.
What about grenades? They work just as well, considering that usually buildings are good hiding places for snipers. Sniping from the windows of course.
Anyway, you're right though. Almost any weapon can do the job in taking out a sniper, its just a matter of how you play.
