Banned because I found an illustrator for my AVATAR hatefic. She seemed really enthusiastic about the project and is probably going to end up committed to doing the whole thing. Then a mutual acquaintance told me she is actually a very bad artist.

Yeah, go by samples of work. It's the only accurate way to know. And then it's up to you if it's worth waiting to see improvement.
