You're Banned!: The Forum Game

Okay, here's what you do for this game: You have to "ban" the person who posted above you for an outrageous, silly, or funny reason. Got it?

Banned because Jewish people are only from the tribe of Judah. I don't know what tribe I'm from if I'm from any at all. The word you are looking for is "Hebrew". That covers all the people of that nationality.

banned for there are many names

Yes, Jew is based off the tribe of Judah which held the line of kingship from David (all 12 tribes until Rehoboam) on until the destruction by Babylon. It became all encompassing during the time of the Roman occupation. The apostle Paul who was a Benjamenite referred to himself as a Jew. They also went by Israelite which is based off of Jacob name given to him during his struggle with an angel. Hebrew started with Abraham.

Banned because I'm confused.

So... Hebrew is the ethnicity and Jew is the religion?

Banned for getting confused by something simple. Hebrew is the all encompassing ethnicity as well as the name of the language. Judaism is the name of a religion but Jew is still used to describe someone from the tribe of Judah. I don't remember the context in which Paul referred to himself as a Jew so I'll have to look at that part in my Bible again. Yes Jew is used to describe them in general but it is still technically inaccurate.

banned for hating talk.

Don't worry too much about it. The terms are tightly enough woven together that they have been scrutinized to near death. In fact, Hebrew or Semite came about because the people were originally defined by their linguistic groupings, seeing that in such a small region there was a lot of cultural exchange and language was one of the few more definitive points. Since language is no longer the common factor, not since 73 CE at least, Hebrew or even Semite is no longer accurate. Then again, Arabs are Semitic by definition of their linguistic origins, but for political reasons will not accept the term on a casual basis.

Banned for being very much mistaken. Hebrew literally means "from across the river". They became known as Hebrews because Moses had come from across the river that divides Egypt from the east. Moses was known as the first Hebrew. There was no cultural exchange at first because God forbade them from mingling and mixing with other cultures and paganism. Their language is still called Hebrew and has changed some but not completely. Arabs did come from the same people and are known as Ishmaelites because they are descendents of Ishmael. They are literally bothers and sisters of the children of Israel. They were cursed to be set against their brethren just as they are to this very day. The Arabic language then branched off as they absorbed pagan languages and practices and then eventually invented Islam based off of an old pagan religion. The Bible has the history of Israel and their forbears clearly layed out. The only reason people refuse to accept that is because it is included in a "religious" text. If it was in just a regular text it would have been accepted. I don't know where you got your false information but whoever came up with that clearly has not looked at the archeological evidence and just came up with their own biased opinion. In short, the Bible is right and has been proven archeologically and the non-believing "scientists" are manufacturing false evidence and making up "facts" just so they can be "right" in their own eyes and get all the glory and attention for themselves rather than just accepting the simple and plain truth. Rant finished.

Banned because it was just a history lesson that slowly morphed into a lot of different things that sounded like they were written by a lot of different people: AIPAC, then the Pentagon, then Jerry Fallwell(sp?) and finally global-warming deniers.

Banned because Bruce Campbell is drastically underappreciated.

Watch Bubba Ho-tep or a few episodes of Burn Notice and you'll see that the man is still at the top of his game. I'd let him date my sister if he wasn't married and she wasn't sorta-married.
