Increase research please

Sins is a great game and I am spending way too many hours playing it (at least my wife tells so). But there are a few things which I do not like that much.

First of all there are only 3 races, I sure hope they do add additional ones at a certain time. As we have Gas giant planets as non colonizable, it would be cool to have an alien race which would come out of these planets.

Secondly, but more importantly, research in Sins sucks. Now dont get me wrong, its still a pretty cool game, but compared to the research in e.g. Galactic civilizations 2 it is just way too small. I am missing e.g. a possibility to spy on my oponents and steal their research knowledge, allowing me to either build some of their ships or research some military or civic technologies.

Another item which I would like to see is more powerfull upgrades. However this would not be a research thing only but the ships would have to go into an upgrade bay structure which would take time and resources. So it would give a major increase of the ships abilities, but would be time and resource demanding.

Although we do have the Artifacts in the game, and they do provide a certain advantage, they are rather static. I would love to add some planetary superprojects which would be simmilar to the wonders in Age of Empires. Cause once you upgrade your planets you dont do anything with them anymore.

Coming back to races - i dont think there is any real planetary bonus for a race. I would expect that e.g. TEC would be tied to Terran, Advent to e.g. ICE and Vasari to Volcanic planets. The races would get unique benefits if they colonize their specific type of planet. But further, if the proper technology researched, they could build terraformer ships and change an e.g. Terran planet into an Ice planet to get their specific benefits.

There is so many possibilities and there is just so little research. So guys, the next datadisk you make - make sure it has a signifficantly increased tec tree.

I understand the modding aspect of everything, but really that is no substitute to the professionally done designing of the devs. Mad Scientist mod is pretty good though if all you want is more things to research

the races do get research that improves their population caps for their favored planets(plus some research for terran planets for all 3 races).

Tec prefer terran, vasari prefer volcanic, advent prefer desert

Even with full tech bonuses terran planets support the biggest population, desert planets support the biggest industry. And volcanic planets support very little population. It doesn't really matter who you play. It says each race has a preference but there isn't much concrete mechanics to back this up.

Doesn't the amount of research on a certain planet type tells you what they prefer?

If you look at tech, the most planetary research goes into terran worlds, and for the psi goes into desert, and for phase goes into volcanic

I, for one, don't want to see a bunch of bonuses get handed out.  I like the rather delicate balance in this game, one reason I choose to play it, buy expansions, and play it some more.  The difference generated by a 10% bonus can be decisive in this game, and that is pleasing to me.
