Killing Heavily Upgraded Stations as Vasari

Killing Heavily Upgraded Stations as Vasari

How the heck do I do it?

Afternoon,

I have been having a tremendous amoutn of trouble destroying stations (particularly Vasari strations) when playing as the Vasari.

In my current game the AI has a 23k hp, fully upgraded with front sheild station guarded by a tremendous fleet. No matter how many cruisers/frigates/caps I seem to the throw at it, I simply cannot put a dent in the damn thing.

I even try to build my own station while the battle is going on, but it doesn't have the time to get any offensive power before being destroyed.

If I were fighting TEC or Advent, I would just avoid the station until my own was built and upgraded, but with the Vasari the bastard chases me down.

How do i kill it without the dedicated anti-structure ships of the Advent and TEC?

Nerull we are talking about a lategame maxtech scenario. People are going to respond accordingly.

Anyway, if you are fighting the AI, you can lead it around the gravitywell by the nose. While mobile, the starbases arn't exactly fast. You should be able to seperate the fleet and the starbase. In fact, draw the fight to the far side from your jump-in point, then push your own starbase in.  Using mines to cover your starbase construction (as per Osiriszyos) will help greatly.

Really though, no game with enough economy to support lategame tech and maxed starbases should bog down at a single chokepoint. Even all the smaller maps have multiple routes to the enemy core worlds.

I managed to kill a heavily upgraded starbase by planthing a string of gravity mines directly in line with where I was building my own star base. The enemy starbase took about 5 minutes getting to me with the -700% acceleration and max speed inhibition.

It gave me enough time to upgrade my starbase to level 3 guns and reintegration with 1 upgrade in armor. 30 skavaros enforcers also.

You are fully aware that one scout would have countered that tactic. As is said above, AI can be nibbed out in a dozen of ways.

Untrue. I, in fact, mentioned a number of times that starbase may show up quite early. I am fully aware that endgame Vasari can jump around that SB. But a 5/8 Starbase will be in the field way sooner than 8-war+5-imperial tech Kostura+PS combo. Every anti-starbase tactic this game can witness will happen way before you see that combo.

Actually, the random maps happen to give various results. Sometimes no choke is present, but sometimes there is only one way between two nearby homeworlds that doesn't require you to jump as far as the Star's gravwell.

Nonsense.  Knowledge is worthless to them. What can the enemy do? Either they keep their starbase in reserve - in which case you get the fleet vs fleet fight you are seeking - or they keep the fleet in reserve and try to chase you around with the starbase, which is absurd. Since it's the AI, they will do neither and just chase your first fleet with both fleet and starbase.

Run that sucker ragged.

P.S. Mines just make it work better. They arn't necessary.
