Game Fanatics Vault - Mod File Download Services

Free file hosting

http://www.gamingvault.net/

Hi, I just started playing Sins again, now recovering World of Warcrack addict lol!

I notice that most Mods are hosted either on Wincustomize.com or filefront or else where, some are annoyingly slow, others having waiting lines and or delete inactive files after 30-60 days. I run a website called Game Fanatics Vault we cater to Mod Designers, providing you with a Mod Studio category, (I have 4 Mod Studio's created, you make more then 1 mod I make a studio) FTP folder (for large files), personal Mod studio image icon, access to your files 24/7 to edit/update at your descretion.

Game Fanatics Vault Sins Mod Downloads <-- Here is example of how our Mod Studio files can displayed. (Note: Names of Studios can be changed)

File Front love them, but if you have a Mod without activity for 30-60 days guess what? They delete it :( (GFV Isn't a business it is built by a group of game lovers who are disgusted with the file services making money off FREE MOD DESIGNS!) Been online since 1999 using various software and now a new name GFV.

PM me here or reg at site to find out more. If you want your Mod posted by you & full access to your files, of course you will need to register :D

We do all of this out of our own pocket cash, only ads we have to support our server are non intrusive Google adsense. What we do is try to sell games through our site to support our server costs. Server speeds are fast up and down, using the download manager at the site is much slower way to upload, I always use FTP. :P

I explained our services that we offer for the gaming community. (It is my way of giving back after 30+ years of fun gaming) NOW it is up to you, If you are interested contact me or one of my staff.

~Happy Gaming

the thing I don't get is why not use Windows live sync.

  • You could have up to 20 different file sharing folders or libraries, each can hold up to 20,000 files (more than all mods will need), and each file cannot be bigger than 4gb (like that is ever going to happen)
  • and you use any of the email services if you want, (I know this because I am one of the people who use windows live sync with other than .live or hotmail)
  • every time some thing changes on the mod, you download it immediatly
  • and you could have up to unknown at the time,
  • could be used on Mac and all version of windows xp and up

I can see how people don't want any more windows apps but lets face it, many of us already have windows live messenger what is the harm?

But here are the cons:

  • its is a microsoft product
  • the owner need to set up permissions
  • you get to know people's email addresses
  • (more to come)

It is why I offer what I do for the community, any game file, any type of file as long its legal or whatever. I have 250 gigs of storage on my current server. I am busy downloading every single Mod for Sins including maps, ships whatever is made for it. My site is faster, downloads are faster, reilable 99% uptime usually goes down 4 times a year to reboot services after our routine scans, data check, we reboot right afterwards to improve the overall performance.

I can't stand seeing some places charge for downloads or you wait. We will compete against them all, out of my own pocket, Filefront is the only site that has same thinking as me.

Using a messenger for your own personal things sure, but I would never use that myself. Good luck with that. ;)

A few of you joined the site, that is great. I am not doing it to gain members, be nice, but our goal is to stop this paying for free Mods. Be like Stardock charging folks to download your work. X|

Cool thing though about sync MSN Live, I never thought of doing that. I use several Google email accounts though.

TBH, Live Sync isn't messenger.

since you can basically run any exe or bat you want from the main menu it's a much better idea to design a program that automatically updates your mod via connecting to a remote FTP or something for the enduser

that is what Windows Live Sync is

that's for personal use, cannot be triggered to automatically update out of a specific location, and has baggage

This is why there are download sites that feature update notifications. Organizing Mod files for someone Modding, to me requires:

1) Forums setup dedicated to the Mod, not a thread, threads are much to confusing to follow. WIth private forums for Dev work & another for testers to report bugs.

2) An organized download area with all your work in one spot with no fear of it being deleted.

3) A good reliable team of guys who want the same vision for the Mod as everyone else.

I see a lot of websites with threads about their Mod work, in fact some, have 2-6 threads, go here for bug reports, go here for updates, go here for ideas and suggests. I mean, doesn't anyone else see how confusing this is? MSN Sync great for personal use, but if you want people to access that Mod, how can they on MSN live easily?

I offer this service for free, we operate under a totally diffferent policy then any other file storage site. If we run low on space, it is time to expand not delete files like FileFront does after 60 days no activity.

I'm busy downloading all the Mods created for Sins, Civ IV, BF2, and many other games. It be far better to see the files submitted by the one who designed them in my opionion. Mod DB is the only other website that does it right, they inspired me to do the same as they are. No fees to download, no fees to host your Mod in their forums, exactly what we do. Hell each of your forums can have your own designed theme. :) Forum icons & most of all it is your forum, you moderate, you control it. Our staff will only help you do whatever you need.

Happy Modding and good luck with using MSN live for your Mod files. ;)

End of quote

so wait you're mirroring other people's mods without their permission

that's not exactly a good thing

No, I let them know before or just after I put them up. How can that be a bad thing? o.0 I'm not saying we made the Mod, all credits are giving too the person who made the Mod, hell I make a special category for Mod Designers that make more then one mod.:)

I'm doing a good thing, not bad, not one single person has been upset about it. You kidding, I love Stardock, always will, great people and make great software. The downloads on Wincustomize arent always accessible, very slow to load pages etc. I have been a stardock affiliate for many years now. I been on the beta testing team for all of Galciv and Galciv II first stages. lol

Providing a free place for file storage is a bad thing? Currently I am only focused on Mods hosted on Wincustomize, in case the site has problems, you can always access them from my site. I did the same exact thing for Galciv, lost all the files though damn it.

I been doing this sort of thing since 2000, NO ONE has been upset at me, most thank me due to all the issues with download services. No, I am doing a good thing, I intend to eliminate a lot of these download services that charge for free files and rape gamers.

Thanks for your comment, I don't agree with it. If anyone doesn't want their files more accessible to the public, hey let me know, I will remove your work. ;)

no, mirroring people's work without their permission is poor form and unprofessional, people submit their files to sites they wish to have their work on. with small mods this isn't a problem but if you do it for TCs you will quite quickly run into some problems. back in the EaW days I submitted my maps to Filefront and saw them spread across the internet with readmes not attached, incorrect descriptions, incorrect authorship, etc etc.

an author of a work has the right to choose where it is hosted. devaluing that right devalues the work of the author and devalues the mod, causes confusion as to ownership, etc. i've worked on DoV for coming up on three years now and several other full TCs and that's something you just don't do. the rule is generally for personal usage you do whatever, but as soon as you start mass distribution that's a no-no.

I understand all of these concerns, I been doing this for a long time for many different games. Not one time has anyone got mad at me hosting their files, in fact most end up using our services on my old domain NeoTech Gaming. I'm not devaluing anyone work, I am not forcing them to do anything. People use these pay for file services because there isn't no other place to upload their files to that is reliable and fast.

I'm not like these other sites or file services. I am home 24/7 I can't work due to illnesses, this is my hobby for fun and pleasure doing something for everyone out there who has worked hard on files, or don't wish to have users be slapped with malious ads etc.

I'm sorry you had bad experiences but we take pride in our services and like I said, most people are so delighted that they can have a file hosted for free, never gets deleted, never is used to make money off from, or bring members to their site. I have no other agenda but to help the community, I am sorry you have to be negative due to your own experinces.

Star Wars Mod, I saw was seriously out of date once I started reading the forums. No one hardly uploads a thing to Wincustomize no more, I wonder why? lol Look, I mean no harm, I never leave out any readme or info. If you look I go out of my spending many hours making sure the files information, support links, mirrors official website are all there. In time we will add each Mod to our Game Fanatic Wiki.

I do you have serious point, over the past 10yrs and before the internet I been doing this for people. Sorry if you think I am doing something bad or wrong, I'm not doing mass distribution either, I am handling all files and information for the Mod Designer, I have designed many Mods myself or been on 100's of Mod Teams. I, unlike some of these file storage businesses, am a hardcore gamer, I feel your concerns, already seen it happen.

Not one person has told me EVER since I been online 1999 to date to remove a file, if something is left out they tell me, I fix it. What file storage service will work with you one on one? You act like I am breaking a mortal sin. O:)
