Noobie needs help with Bomber spam

Hi,

Me and my friends have just started playing Sins entrenchment, and one of us found rather quickly that Advent spamming lots of bombers and upgrading there laser systems seems to destroy everything,

basically he just builds drone carriers and carrier type capships and has gazillions (well about 60+ bomber wings)
+

SB seems not to be able to target strike craft so SBs fall in one of 2 passes, cap ships die just as fast its just mental

I normally play Vasarri and another friend of mine plays TEC but we cant seem to find anything that works so in multiplayer games its just a race to finish the Advent player off before the bomber spam gets into full force? we also try spamming fighters and flak type frigates but it doesnt seem to work before the all powerfull locus swarm of bombers turns up and melts eveything :P

so please are there any solid strats to defeat Advent bomber spam when playing TEC or Vassari?

Regards

Ging

Just how many flak and fighters are you trying to kill his fleet with? Flak frigates are a very tiny unit, you should be having at least one flak for every SQUADRON he is throwing at you. Drone hosts field 3 squadrons a piece.

The TEC Battleship (Kol) has an amazing flak burst ability. One high level shot can cripple most of the enemy fleet, and 2 bursts at once can wipe them out in a single pass.

to counter a bomber spam it is best to get tons of fighters. flack are useless against bombers (they do the wrong type of dmg). Your TEC friend has it easier than you, a lvl 3 of the kols flack burst could take out all of the bombers at once if they were in range, leaving him without a fleet. to kill his carriers you should build lots cobalts/skirmishers.

Now for the vasari you probably want a kortul devastator cause it has the Jam weapons ability which can keep the enemy bombers from fireing at you until your fighters deal with them. By the time youve used jam weapons twice or three times the bombers should be almost gone. another suggestion if you are vasari is build 10 or so overseers and micro them so they heal the caps that the bombers are targeting, that way you wont lose your caps as much.

You need to use special anti-strike craft abilities.  That's a Kol with flak barrage, a Dunov with magnetize, a Halcyon with telekinetic push, or a Kortul with jam weapons.  These will disable or destroy enemy strike craft, and they just get more effective as the enemy throws more strike craft at you.  You'll want to follow up with fighters to clean up the remaining bombers.  Flak frigates are good for dealing with fighters, but if the enemy is massing bombers they aren't worth your effort.

The one thing to realize about bombers is that they annihilate orbital structures (including starbases) very quickly, so you need to rely on your fleet.  You cannot rely on starbases because they get ripped apart by even moderate bomber forces if left unattented.  To beat bombers, you need the right capital ships and the right fleet, and most of all you need to press your advantage.  It takes time to rebuild strike craft after they're destroyed.  A good player will run away if he loses a lot of his strike craft.  Don't let those carriers escape, because given enough time they'll rebuild every last bomber and be just as dangerous.

All good advice. Some additions:

Keep a close eye on that bomber fleet, make sure you know where it is at all times. I think one of the best ways to save your SBs is to engage the bombers before they get to that system. Jump ahead with your fighters and start plucking them out of the sky. Send in your cap ship with antistrikecraft abilities after your fighters have engaged. Also keep your fighters away from the enemy Halcyons, their telekinitic push can level your fighters leaving you defenseless. Set your fighters to attack local are only and keep-em near your fleet if he pulls his bombers back to the carriers. Then move your Caps in close with the fighters supporting so you can get the same anti-strikecraft advantage while damaging your opponents Caps.

In the event you cant get a pre-emptive strike in:

You want to try and keep those carriers in the well with your fighters as long as possible. The longer they are in, the more bombers they will lose. Get your SB up to full health and shields, and upgrade squadron bays to give you some extra bomber killing power. Throw down some repair structures, hangar bays and phase jump inhibitors as they are enticing bomber targets. Build some mines to prevent kiting and most importantly is what Darvin said:

It takes time to rebuild strike craft after they're destroyed. A good player will run away if he loses a lot of his strike craft. Don't let those carriers escape, because given enough time they'll rebuild every last bomber and be just as dangerous.
End of quote

Stay on top of that fleet, strike craft build rate is MUCH slower if an enemy fleet is in the well. With little protection for those bombers, your fighters will be able to kill them seconds after theyre rebuilt and launched. Good luck.
