Opening/editing entity files

Alright i have searched, and I have tried everything with convertdata thingy. It doesn't work. Whenever I try to open it, it closes down instantly. Trying to go: Run > cmd > write in the directary of the covertdata doesn't work either.

How the hell do I do this?

/r c:\GameInfo %a in (*.entity) do convertdata entity %a %a txt

When I write this as told, I get: "r/" is not a recognized... blabla...

If I remove that so its:

c:\GameInfo %a in (*.entity) do convertdata entity %a %a txt

It says: The system cannot find the path specified.

What gives?

annatar's advice assumes a familartity with DOS commands, but if you want a copy of the 1.16 and entrenchment 1.02 files that have been TXTed I have uploaded my un-official reference sets for both.

hope this helps.

btw I have included the BATCH files that I used to do the conversion

Looks good so far, thanks man.

Now how do I get it back to binary so it becomes usable again?

it is actually a 7zip self extractor of the entire txted sins 1.16 without sounds

I'm grateful for the your assistance so far mate, but if I cant convert it back to Binary, how can I actually use it? :(

the txted file do work. i have a micro mod that toughens the starbases a LOT created with the txt format of the files and it runs with NO errors or problems.

if you really NEED the files in binary then you should edit the BATch files changeing the txt to bin.

the txt files are infinitly easier to edit than the bins and do work in sins, just take a bit more ram

why cant there just be a program that opens entity files, or why cant said files be opened correctly with notepad?

the BINary files are to reduce memory NEED to make more memory available in game for your inter race WARS and not force all players to move to 64bit and re-write the entire game for 64bit and 8gb ram
