This thread started as an announcement that IE8 was now available as a windows update. It, like all other browser threads quickly turns in to nothing more than people "whipping out their wangs" and saying "my wang's better, bigger and faster than your wang". Personal insults and name calling soon follow. (and there are some in here already)

Features which I dont' like about IE 8 -

Web Slices- lets site operators designate areas and information on their pages that can be saved and viewed without actually going to the site. However, site owners have to take the initiative to do this, and so far not many have.

Visual Searches- If you use the search field in the top right of the browser window, results cascade as you type that include summaries and images. Again, the search provider has to enable this capability.

The short answer then is no.

Just keep IE7 for what it is needed for and continue to use FF for everything else.

Probably is a good idea to install IE8, since it update the absolute garbage that is IE. but it will be a mad idea to use it, since in no time your computer will be full of virus.

Personally, I'll keep IE7 for now and use it along with Firefox.  IE8 will probably be ok once the bugs are worked out, but I don't care to beta test it for M$.

For those of you that are going to go "NUH UH!!! FF IS FASTER!" STFU and die. If you were on satellite, you'd know what I'm talking about, since you're not I hate you. 

But I'm not on satellite.  Maybe you should try Firefox.  It's faster, you know?

IE 8 final version is alredy out so you dont need to or have to test beta.

Sorry, amitsaran.  I wasn't being very clear.  M$ puts out stuff when it should still be in the beta stage.  The bugs for IE8 probably won't be worked out for some time.  That's what I meant.  Anyone going for anything new from M$ is essentially beta testing it until they can come up with a service pack to fix what should have worked in the first place.

Well, you are quite rite, even I wrote in my previous post that I rolled back from IE8 to IE7, currently im using IE7 and firefox3.0.10

Though, I hardly use IE7 for anything........

Mottikhan, blow me.  I'm still using it, IE 8 pissed me off too much with the smart text selection.

When I'm an old fart with a degenerative motor control disease I'll probably like the feature better, but for now it just pisses me off.

That acid test is nice, but there's more to a browser than compatibility.  I really would drop FF for the significantly faster on unbelievably shitty connections IE8, regardless of compatibility, if it were just designed by intelligent people instead of morons trying too hard to make it convenient to use.  Tools are not smarter than the people that operate them.  Well, ok, tools are not smarter than me.  I'm not too sure about the rest of you.

Well, even though I use Firefox, I still updated IE. Keep in mind it's still used a lot by Windows and some applications (like Steam and Impulse) for various things.

Do your bit to advance the web, don't USE IE. IE has been single handedly holding back web advancement for years now because it comes bundled with windows, IE 8 is only a slight improvement.

Its standards rendering is still pitiful, as proven by the acid tests. Its a resource HOG, and for all the resources its chewing up, it still is a pitifully slow browser (Firefox and Chrome eat their own share of resources, at least they actually do something with those resources and are blazing fast).

IE, even IE8 is still probably the single biggest security threat on your computer.

Final verdict:

Step 1. Upgrade to IE8 because its so tightly integrated into windows.
Step 2. Install Firefox / Chrome / Opera / Safara and use one of those instead.

If you honestly believe IE8 is a faster browser, you have somehow fooled yourself.

Try out any of the stuff on there with any version of IE you like and watch it explode, then try with Chrome/Firefox/Opera/Safari.
