Jump Drive

Been toy'ing with alot of stuff now, and I really love it.

Now I wonder, is there a way to make a Jump Drive ability. I'll leave the question wide open, any and all solutions are welcome.

What do you mean by jump drive technology, you mean you got to research jump drive to jump?

If I got it right, I suppose you could just create an ability that will increase the jump drive charge up to like 100000% and then nullify it once you researched it

what i mean it is like getting a jump inhibitor which increase the jump time 700%

I dont understand what you mean :P

However what I was thinking was a ability that allowed you to engage Jump from anywhere in a Gravity Well to any other Gravity Well. Or if thats not possible, allow phase jumping from anywhere in a gravity well (research)

I think it hardset that you have to go to the edge of grav well to jump

you could look at the Distort Gravaty ability it has a buff that reduces the minimum range needed to phase jump. Im sure if made an ability and increased the range reduction you could make it so you can jump into and out of must the the grav well.

distorting grav well sizes or planet sizes will also change the jump behaviour. i believe also in the planet entity the jump distance can be reset to other values so that the jump point is then moved inside the grav well.  :)

or just improve the gravitaic tolerance ability in the vasari tech tree... :w00t:

it's already there, just put it up to a higher %

is it possible to have ships jump between unconnected grav wells? and really far away grav wells (like my home planet across 3 star systems to your home planet)? (this would be a researchable subject similar to LR-jumps)

i would like to see somthing like this more like a cooldown for jumps perventing a person from jumping in and running away so to speak

CursedSpirit,

I just D/Led a mod called 'PhaseScout'. It is similar to what I wanted to do.

Here's how it works:

Basically, the scouts have the 'Infallible Jump Drive' Ability replaced with a new one that allows for the fleet to jump from one planet to any other one in the map. Period. My home to yours.

The catch- YOU MUST SCOUT A PLANET TO BE ABLE TO JUMP TO IT!

This actually makes sense, as if you don't know the coordinates (location) of a planet/oid or star or anything that produces a gravity well, then you can't jump there. Note that the new scout frigate ability must be researched (I think). I haven't played it yet and it isn't clear what version its for, but on the current Sins version (1.17) and the current Entrenchment version (1.03) this is something that would definitely be doable.

Also, PREVENTING is spelled P-R-E-V-E-N-T-I-N-G, not P-E-R-V-E-N-T-I-N-G. (I'm a spelling freak)

The closest thing to accomplishing your idea that I can come up with is this. The Vasari Starbase has a researchable upgrade to create a temporary Phase Stabilizer that allows any ships in its gravity well to jump directly to any gravity well in the star system that has a Phase Stabilizer structure itself.

I'm guessing you would want to give this Starbase ability to another ship (say a capital ship or super-expensive support craft); although, I think it would sitll require a Phase Stabilizer on the receiving end (Vasari players correct me if wrong on this, I play Advent).

So, if you wanted to get a step closer to what you want you'd need a ship, not just the Starbase, to have the Phase Stabilizer Array ability, and a way to construct the Phase Stabilizer structure (if not playing Vasari) in the receiving gravity well.

There was a mod back when I first started playing SoaSE called 'Phase Scouts'. It allows a you to research an ability that all scouts could gain. Once it was used in a particular system it was permanent, which I love. But it made it so you could jump from any gravity well in a star system where the scout had used the phase ability to any other gravity well in that same star where the ability was used. I love the mod so much I dont patch my SoaSE because it doesn't seem to work in v1.15.

The concept the guy that wrote it stated, and I like and fully concur, is that space is wide open, and once a location is known you would not have to take a 'Phase Lane', or even several of them, to get to that gravity well any more. I wish dearly someone would update the mod to work with the current patch. But oh well, lol. I dont play it that much anymore to worry over it too much.

If you can't find the mod and want a copy of it let me know and I can put it up on my web site for a few days so you can get it. But it may still be available somewhere.

edit: btw, your idea about jumping from well within the gravity well to another point would go WONDERFULLY with 'Phase scouts'.

Bah, without a built-in spell-check for these forums, it's quite easy to transpose letters. It's the goofs who cannot use proper grammar (and hence are largely incomprehensible) on these forums that are really irritating, haha.

senorfrito,

if you read all of the post (no offense), then you would have seen the mod I mentioned. Truthowl also mentions the same mod I D/Led, which I now know probably won't work with my Sins version (1.17).

:)  Phase Scouts is still available, but for the original 1.05 vanilla sins, up on wincustomize.com, very cool mod. good enough reason to keep the original 1.05 folder somewhere.  :)

the question is if you really want to incorporate it... because then all concept of Chokepoints and Fortification is lost...

Whats stopping a large fleet jumping straight to your homeworld, and destroying you from within? Yes i know someone mentioned a mod where a scout was needed to give co-ordinates... but if you spam 15-20 Scouts, you can generally get 5 or more to their final destination...

The the whole concept of Entrenchment is moot. We are back to Vanilla Sins where only a fleet would be able to defend your planets... and if your didnt have enough ships....

Thats why there should be a facility to jump from specific point to specific point where the chokepoint is predictable, as opposed to well edge to well edge. Exactly like a jump/star gate concept... I am not sure that is possible atm.

I have been able to add the phasescout into a mod in entrenchment1.03 and have it work
