Modding Entrenchment Help

Hello all :) i just recently installed SoaSE again and decided to get entrechment, but before entrenchment i modded my own game fairly heavyily such as changing around capital ships weapons and whatnot, it was all text based editing, but now the same files i use to edit are coded... now my simple question is do i need one of the forge tools to convert it over to text, make my changes then convert it back? is there a tool that does such a thing?  Thanks for any help and sorry for haveing to ask such a simple and someone stupid question :D

Yea i use 1.02 should i use 1.01? i like easy modding and i would rather it be simple but if there is a tool that can convert it to text and back again im okay with that, thanks for the info neterw!

if you have 1.02 do NOT use the 1.01 reference data as it WILL cause dumps,also I have upload a texted sins 1.16 & entrenchment 1.02.
