TEc attacking pirate base, what do I do?

I heard that colonizing the pirate base can somtimes give you stuff. So I want to try it out. I already atttacked their base with my long range missiles so that they cant build anymore. But how do I go about taking down their heavy cruisers? I already sent a HUGE fleet with all 5 cap ships in there, and only two made it out :-( and three of them were lvl 10 (strangly the lvl 10's all died and the lvl 2's escaped) Now i want to attack them and totally destroy them. They have 86 heavy crusiers left, and the orbital guns. The guns are no problem its just the heavy cruisers, anyone have a trick or insight into this?

Bombers! lots and lots of bombers! make sure your carriers are constantly moving around the outer rim of the grav well (known as kiting)

They don't build ships, they get a set of ships to attack a planet and what ever is left will return back to the pirate base and increase the numbers there. This is common when play the AI they cant handle pirates well. So to keep the numbers down and win the war of attrition, let them attack you.

Darn, I tried to follow someone elses thread post that said to use the akkan to  colonize it and allow the pirates to protect the asteroid, well i did that but then the pirates used their seige vessels to bomb the heck outa me.

Are you playing vanilla or Entrenchment?

In Entrenchment, the pirates are massivley de-graded... but if you're playing vanilla I would focus on LRM's, Hoshiko's, and some Kodiak's of your own.

Also, if you want the pirates to protect your planet, destroy thier planet bombers 1st, then colonize and get the crap outta there

entrenchment, and its fairly hard to distinguish which out of the 100 ships are the 15 or so seige bombers.

Since you are Tec take in a lvl 6 Marza.  No pirate ship, including their HCs can survive that.  Just let the bulk of them get into range.  If you wnat to leave the pirate fleet intact to guard your new money maker, you mus tnow take out their siege frigates.  Bombers will work against the siege frigates.  The base will provide 3.5 credits a second without any efforts on your part.

Please read to the end of the thead, its an old thread.  If you leave the pirate fleet intact, you will need the Akkan to reach the base, colonize, and leave.

Yes, that will work.  Since they have 15 (wow, that is more than I have ever seen, I am used to 3), you may need to make a few trips in and out with carriers to completly remove the siege frigates, otherwise if you just want the base, just destroy their fleet with a Marza, again with 86 ships, you might have to rinse and repeat to get them all.
