Is this possible?

Ive always wanted to try to mod something (or see someone else mod this :p ) where the planets, while connected by phase lanes are still able to be traversed through non-phase travel.

 

In smaller maps on slower games, phasing could be a technology you have to aquire (similar to blackhole jumps and star phase jumps). Meaning all planets are open regardless of their phase lanes.

 

for instance:

                planet A

            /                 \

planet B                   planet C

           \                   /

                planet D

While A is only connected to C and B through phase lanes would it be possible to mod it so that you can traverse the open space at normal gravity well speed from A to D?

 

I only ask because space is not so linear to always have these "phase lanes". With a mod like this it could be possible to sneak attack an enemy or in the case of entrenchment you could set a mine field just outside their vision (gravity well) and then lure their fleet ouside into it. Among other tricks of course.

Ive seen it happen too many times people will set up huge defences on a single stretch of phase lanes with only two connections so you HAVE to battle through it. I think its a bit more interesting to have a small chance that someone would take that extra time to go around your phase lanes to hit you when you least expect it.

 

So... is this do-able, or to anyone else desireable? I think its interesting, but again thats just me.

I'm pretty sure the way you want it its not possible. While people have gotten ships to go outside the gravity well and to other planets even in vanilla sins, the game still considers that ship to be in the gravity well it started in, and thus can't see/shoot/do anything to affect another gravity well. Your ships just shows up close to another planet...

Like Goa said, it's not possible.  What you could try to do is connect all the gravity wells in the game so traversing that black space is still in the same gravity well and Planets A,B,C,D are all in the same gravity well.  I don't know if this can be done since I think only a max of one clickable planet can be in a grav well at once but you could always try.
