Stardock will be closed for Easter weekend starting on Friday, April 3rd and we will be returning on Tuesday, April 7th. We will be monitoring support tickets and forums during this time, but expect delays in responses during this time.
Is it possible to clone a ship already present in the base game, so you can have two of the same ship? I'm trying to make it so you have the standard colony ship and then a heavy one.

I think it would be possible, but you would have to create a new copy with a different name and slot in the build menus.
but as I have not got that far into modding yet to have done similar so I do not KNOW.

I did create a new copy and changed the name (also in the string file). However, I think my problem lays with selecting a diffrent build slot. I don't know how to do that yet.
I think it to do with 'MainViewIcon-Ship.brushes'
