If you were in a holosuite program...

If you were in a holosuite program...

Okay, so say that tomorrow someone invents a holosuite (which is a holographic suite from Star Trek) and you get to pick one (only one) program to run, what would that program be?

I know what my program would be, it would have all the hot girls from my high school in it (and only the hot girls [with the emphasis on "hot"; no ugly or fat girls]).

Mmmmmm. Sleeep.

Seriously.

If I had a holosuite to make use of, I think I would like to drive in NASCAR.

2D computer video games just don't do it for me. If I could really simulate the real thing without the cost, I would really like to pit my driving skills against the likes of Dale Earnhardt Sr., Richard Petty, Gordon, and especially Johnson.

To be honest if we are talking about star trek tech, holo decks can produce food which can fill you up. So I vote for a buffet with every food we have now and I shall feast till eternaty.

P.S.: I wonder why people in star trek don't get fat... I mean when people work at Google they used to get free buffet there and people describe a "fattening" once you get there.

Except that the 'holo-food' would be gone once you exited the holosuite.

It would not provide any true sustenance.

Yea about those anciet wars and such. Along with all that epicness you have to account for the lack of any hygene, diseases, etc etc oh and no toilets or hot showers. It was actually a really sucky time to live in compared to our current time. And if the safety restrictions on the holo suite was removed then you could die quite easily by just some random bar fight or what not.

Being in the middle of a war, future or past would sound cool but your lack of training would probably get you killed faster than you could blink.

That being said, I want a Supreme Commander simulation.

In some ways you are correct, but well the holodeck works the same way as the replicators in star trek, in which they create the proteins so if you consume the food, it actually stays with you

Actually, according to the tech manual, while the holodeck occasionally replicates things, it generally uses hol-force-field constructions. The food would be holographic and thus tasteless unless you specifically requested it to be real. If it was real, it would have the same fattening effects as always.

One of the painfully recurring features of the holo-deck was that even though some things were designed to be holographic only, they weren't.

Something to think about, when you start blasting away at that borg with your tommy-gun.

Well, this entrie thread is assuming that the thing will work as intended, so keep your reality to yourself.

If I do recall correctly, that borg was killed after the safety was turned off. I don't remember the exact details as I haven't watched that movie for a while.

? Was my post offensive somehow? Otherwise I think I'll keep discussing it right here, thank you very much.

Turns out I remember it completely wrong, so in retrospect my comment about the borg made no sense.

In all seriousness, I think I'd play some sick computer games. Like playing a space marine in some 40k game.

Play GalCiv 2 from my emperor's palace? ;)

Going on a limp here. but It would be cool to play Sins on a holodeck, can you imigine...

I'm sorry if you were offended. The gist of my point is, that this post assumes that the thing would work. The keep your reality to yourself wasd just my sarcastic (and, admittedly at times, abrasive) joke about discounting a perfectly valid idea.

I assume that by the time they can make holodecks they can remove the bad fats from food also while preserving the taste, ergo making all food sort of healthy.

Actually in an episode Troi tries to order a REAL chocolate sunday and the computer tells her that it cannot replacete it as she wants because it would not follow good health protocol or whatever they call it.

You may order greasy ribs but you would actually be eating stuff that your body realluy needs. So that's why they don't get fat, because the computer tricks the mind it tastes like fat but it's not fat.

If I had but one choice I would bring my girlfriend to an exotic vacation spot and we would relax for a few weeks with no kids!!!!

Ahh ha-ha , what would i do...well , what could you do? Sexual fantasies of course leaps to a persons mind. But is stimulation really the best use of a simulation? No restrictions , no censorship; bound by neither morals nor ethics. Use your imagination. Example(in case you got the wrong idea):genetic research ,NBC weapon research ,war simulations , probability/reality tests. When death isn't a factor...(combine with time dialation)

What about you figure out the flaw with all this! Karma for a good argument! (and thus he showed his generosity and confirmed his schizophrenia by speaking in third person)

True.... I imageine that you could also put crazy people in holosuites, and just let them act out their psychoses. Might be good both as a diagnosis and treatment method.

Or someone might want to commit a 'crime', like shoot the president. Would that actually be wrong? You might say no, because he's not actually committing the crime. But if someone wanted to rape babies in the holosuite, would that also still be okay? Hmm it's getting phylosophical in here.

I would probably enact a WWII-ish scenario, in which I'm a soldier in enemy territory, pretty much on my own. Why? I have reoccuring dreams about that. Not often, but every now and then. Those dreams feel so real to me, almost lucid, that they make a deep impression on me. I'd probably get in the holosuite and actually put me inside that scenario, and play out the scenario. Ofcourse in my dream I'm like a really good stealth soldier and never get shot. If my holosimulation is realistic I'd probably 'die' within a couple of minutes

How much pure win would that be with the most realistic physics engine ever?

Err, why would you need a holodeck for that? Go outside, nature has the most realistic physics engine ever..

Except you don't have absolute control over nature, and because nature is TOO realistic: if you get stabbed in the chest, you die.

knowing how the holodeck screws up most of the time though I'd probably get an STD.  Those damn failsafes are fail.
