First Successful Advent Rush...only to get Owned

Please make me good at the game :D

Hellllloooooooooooooooooooooo

Replay mania: http://www.mediafire.com/?md1jyuqlzmw

Previous to this game, I've had a hard time getting off to a good start with Advent, but I feel I did a decently excellent job getting off to a great start this game. Especially so considering that wax seems to be far more experienced than I am.

After the game, Wax was kind enough to share that I probably should have gotten purge vessels after I drove away his fleet from his HW. After the watching the replay, I have to agree that I should have pummelled his HW instead of hunting his structures/tech. The planet was half his income, which was substantially more than mine.

Likewise, I took note that I probably should have setup trade ports while sitting on HW instead of teching straight to daestras.

My questions are these:

What would have been the best approach to take for bombarding his planet? Despite how ridiculously expensive purge vessels are, should I have purchased them? Should I have bought another capital ship instead? Should I have just sat there with my cap whittling it down, or possibly even research the bombardment upgrades?

You decide

On another note, I've noticed that in previous games, as well as this one, Wax has consistenly upgraded his infrastructure, and bought the terran pop cap bonus research right away. What is the most effective times do this? In particular, as advent and vasari. I've always heard it's best to expand before buying those, but it appears that there is an optimal time midgame to go for them.

A Forewarning: If you're squeamish about..."colorful language," you might not want to watch the replay. My friend and I take particular enjoyment out of "swearing like a sailor".

Advent are particularly weak with Planet Bombardment, and with that Purge Vessels are a must for quickly removing an opponent, another cap couldn't hurt either. As for your fleet, you have to balance destroying your enemies fleet with destroying his means of production, luckily this is made easier with illuminators multiple beams. If you've got the upperhand you have to make sure you hang on to it, follow that fleet and destroy it, take down those frigate factories and military labs while you're at it. When you're rushing, you have to make sure you keep your momentum, losing you momentum gives your opponent a chance to regroup and beat you with superior economy. Have your fleet charge ahead while you liberate the planets you've already been through with purge vessels. Be sure and destroy constructors before moving on so he can't build anything behind you.

And finally, keep practicing. The guys who are good at Advent rushes have played them so many times the've worked out most of the kinks, and know exactly what to do in any given situation, you'll get there just stay with it.

Good Luck!
