Hoshiko Bug? (will not rep Cap ships automaticall)

As I'm playing right now, I notice that hoshikos will not repair my capital ships on their own. They will automatically cast repair drones on cruisers and frigates but not capitals, I have to manually do it for each one. Kind of irritating watching my caps die because the support cruisers just sit around. Also, shouldn't the priority of repair casting be set to the most valuable ship? I see Dunovs casting Shield restore on a puny little carrier that has full hull while my capital ship right next to it is half dead! (I think Hoshinkos are doing the same)

EDIT: I noticed now that they do heal caps but it's very slow. I have 5 capitals all sitting around and the two hoshikos will only repair one at a time.

Anyone know what's up?

Well, Hoshiko's tend to heal the most damaged unit. I'm not sure, but it might be a percentage of hull lost or something of the sort. Might also heal those within a certain hull points away from death--which is not good for cap. ships since they are important.

Hoshiko's hull repair don't stack and they will wait till it is pretty crucial before they start healing something. Another factor may be that two Hoshiko's going for the same ship but only one gets to cast heal.

theres another possible reason, alot of people have raised the issue that auto-cast on most abilities are pretty screwy, either the conditions for auto-cast or the abilites themselves.

so, for instance, a Kol Flak Burst will detonate when there are only 3 SC in range or something silly like that.

i guess its possible to program in some overriding rules like, IF any cap ship is below 50% hull, THEN auto-cast ability on said capital ship, rather than the carrier cruiser of HC or LF thats about to die, but i have no idea

maybe a fix will come out with the next update or X-pack

The Hoshiko autocast kicks in if a ship took more than 150 hull points worth of damage. Of course, the underlying logic is probably a bit more complicated, it's unlikely that a Hoshiko would toss a repair on a capital that's out of combat that's only missing 150hp.

One of the biggest ways that Autocast goes wonky is late in very large games. At those stages, the game needs a lot of stuff done and so auto-orders tend to get shoved down the priority list. It's really easily noticeable with scouts' mine detection. Build a few early game, and note how long it takes them to attack and switch to the next mine. Then scout out the entire map (especially that huge 5 star random filled with 9 AIs) and get to the point where everyone has their fleets maxed out, and then time how long it takes scouts to attack and switch. I've seen it take a few minutes just to trigger auto-attack on a detected mine ;)

That's probably what it is. This map is very large and I have 7 AI's in late game.  Maybe I can turn down some of the visuals so it processes faster.
